I have the pill METRONIDAZOLE it expires 1/ 13 2013 is it still safe to take the tablet

Hi can you still take metronidazole after if it expired Feb2015 this year? It was properly stored.

Hi shonta,

Based on my research certain drugs are actually okay to take many years after their expiration date, whereas others such as, specific types of antibiotics (namely tetracycline) can become toxic.

Normally I'd still consider taking something like that if it's only been two months old, but because it's an antibiotic (and I don't know if it can become toxic) I would encourage you to get a new script from your doctor or have it lab tested for quality, before relying on it for a serious infection.
