I was prescribed Phentermine 15 mg capsules....on the bottle it says Phentermine generic for Phentermine HCL...I have never taken a med of this type & I am kinda scared... Can anyone help me with what it contains and if there are any really bad side effects and is it slow release? I need to lose 30 lbs.

Dawn,
Well, it's been several years since your post, so you prob have it figured out by now. But, i'll write anyway. I was on this short-term med too - for weight loss. I started at the highest, which I have found is the most common = 37.5 and they are capsules. They are basically speed or in the amphetamine family. Like think of the wild and crazy housewife commercials of the 60s. I think the 'rule' is that you are supposed to take them for three months and if you didn't lose *% of your body weight in that 12 weeks, then stop because they aren't working for you. You will also find that your appetite goes majorly down... like to non-existent down. You'll be happy with that, but you'll be speedy in the head and cleaning at 4am. They work, but not for years and that was my problem, when I would switch doctors from relocating I provided a list of my meds and it was listed so I kept getting scripts until recently. There are crackdowns on ADHD meds because they are stimulants and so is Phentermine. My doctor didn't want someone on his back or to put his license at risk by prescribing two stimulants at one time, so he took me off of them, slowly. I thought that it would be all at once, but after all of those years it took me a good four months to get off them entirely. They work and they work even better with exercise. They're kinda like magic... until you feel like your heart is going to explode inside your chest from beating and working too hard. So, looking back, they were fine in the beginning for a few months, but I should have stopped while I was ahead. Long-term? Not so good and especially if you have an addictive personality.
Hello, Dawn! How are you?
Phentermine is the active ingredient, it is used to aid in weight loss. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness and insomnia.
And no, it is a regular release medication.
Can anyone that's taken it chime in with their experience?
