Yes, that can happen and is generally nothing to worry about, as long as your most recent pap smear was normal. Unless your doctor feels that there is some reason to be concerned.
Aside from breakthrough bleeding, the FDA lists the other side effect of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, PMS-like symptoms and weight gain.
