My son was hit in the upper lip five years ago. He has had four root canals. He is always in pain and has been on oxycontin, 2 15 mg a day time release for two years that help him function and work. Is that an acceptable amount?

Well, really they should be checking into why he is still having so much pain, if the problems have supposedly been repaired.
There is no way that root canals should continue to cause pain, after they have healed, by their very nature, they remove the root of the tooth, which is the sensitive part the causes pain, when irritated.
Has he returned to a dentist for further examination?
