Percocets Then And Now...
UpdatedOnce upon a time, Percocet had twice the amount of acetaminophen in it as well as a healthy dose of caffeine. Understandably the amount of acetaminophen had been cut in half to spare us liver damage. The missing caffine I don't quite understand. I do find that a couple of cups of coffee does help. NEVER EVER take Tylenol or other acetaminophen with narcotic pain meds. But I believe that some of the reasons they seem weaker now are because of the missing or diminished ingredients. Along with the fact that a tolerance builds so quickly to these pain medications that in a week they seem to be doing less than they did before. Keep this in mind. Having said that, I will add that I have had my prescription filled at Walmart in the past. NEVER AGAIN. This goes for any prescription. I had hydrocodone 10/325s filled there once and Tylenol was stronger and I found out they were manufactured in Russia, and they contain only 20% of the hydrocodone, same with Percocet. They also charged double of what every other pharmacy in my small town charged. So call around and check before you have anything filled there. The small hometown pharmacy I use charges me $44.00, Walmart was $64.00 for the same prescription. Shouldn't there be some regulation that holds them accountable to at least inform us that they are selling a lesser product?

Percocet has always contained Acetaminophen, and Oxycodone, it has never contained Caffeine, and the reason the Acetaminophen was lowered was due to the number of accidental overdoses, some of which were fatal, that occurred from people taking more of it to help their pain, and/or also taking other medications that contain Acetaminophen.
The FDA warns that Percocet carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

As to the 20% there is no generic prescription medication in the U.S. that only contains 20% of the active ingredient. I believe you may be misunderstanding the Hatch-Waxman Letters that allows for a difference of plus, or minus 20% of the active ingredient, so the minimum available would have 80% of the active ingredient, although most generic manufacturers do have strict quality control standards, and do not have that big of a difference.

Now, on to the pricing..... the prices of generic medications can vary significantly from pharmacy to pharmacy, depending on what they are being charged by their supplier. This is normal. You have to do your own due diligence to check prices with the pharmacy, or you can use prescription drug savings programs, such as GoodRx to help save money.
As to a regulation, all of the information I've provided is freely available to anyone that wants to look it up, and read it.
Is there anything I can help with?
