Percocet And Dizziness

Mother is 91 years old with *SEVERE* pain (lumbar pinched nerve) and takes no medication other than 10mg Prednisone. Physician prescribed 5mg Percocet, but it makes her dizzy and she won't take it. Taking half dose (2.5mg) doesn't help pain at all. Is there a strong pain medication out there with "least amount of dizziness?" I SURE need your help, please. Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, dizziness can be a side effect of most pain medications, according to FDA reports. She may also experience nausea, headache, dry mouth, constipation, and drowsiness.

Everyone is different, so she might need to try a different one to see if it causes her less dizziness than this one. Has she informed her doctor?

Another way to minimize the side effects is by being sure to take it with food, and not on an empty stomach.

Once her body gets used to the medication that dizziness will go away, I found the only way to get through it was to make sure I was lying down shortly after I took it, then I can get back up again an hour or two later after the dizzy part has passed.
