Pentazocine is not for everybody. Personally, I love Pentazocine, that is pure Pentazocine HCI, as manufactured in Canada as "Talwin-P" 50 mg, by Sanofi, also mfg in Italy, as Talwin pure, other countries offering pure pentazocine tablets, Spain as "Sosegon" 25 mg, Pakistan as "Sosegon", Austria/Netherlands/Germany/Cz Republic/as "Fortral", Thailand as "Pangon", Belgium as "Fortal" & United Kingdom as "Fortral" It was re-classified under a tighter controlled substance schedule in the EU, and, has fallen in disfavor unfortunately, since that 2003 conference in Austria. Only Krka and Sanofi are the major manufacturers left, of this once top 200 selling pharmaceutical in the USA. The formula was changed by Winthrop to curb abuse, and to slow down the DEA's efforts to have Talwin reclassified a C-II in 1983, and adding Naloxone, not only curbed the abuse in the USA, it killed the sales of the medication, as the tablets pain relieving effects were also altered, in spite of the mfg claims it was not altered if taken orally. I currently take it, and prefer it over hydrocodone 10/325, and, to me, are equal in pain relief to simple brand Percocet 5/325. The difference, is that for a strong minority of pentazocine users, the narcotic analgesic, offers a head high speed rush, like taking a short acting amphetamine, with the pain killing power of say a Tylenol #4, or a Vicodin 5/325. ""many people get a lot of energy, like early amphetamine users, and are not drowsy at all, instead, makes many talkaholics, when the 3 to 4 hr effects kick in. Also an appetite suppressant, to me, just like any kind of controlled substance with amphetamine in it.

It is also rapidly disappearing off of the globe because of flagrant recreational abuse of mainliners in the Far East. Japan banned all forms of Pentazocine, about 5 yrs ago. 21 countries sold Pentazocine tabs about 12 yrs ago, and it is now down to about 7 or 8 countries left. The liquid Pentzocine is well represented in all countries in Africa, India, and all of the Middle East, and in many other industrialized countries, but only in hospitals in ampuls or vials. I predict the tabs will be extinct within 5 yrs from now, but the Pentazocine Lactate, liquid, will be around for a lot longer. For severe pain, it is not in the league as Dilaudid, OxyContin, or, Duragesic, or Demerol IV or Demerol IM. Just my 2 cents worth. I am sad as a trip to Canada is my only way to get it now, and, for 36 to 50 tablets, "that is really not worth a trip, just to get medicine, to immediately return to the USA!!!
