Penicillin is an antibiotic that's used to treat or prevent bacteria infections. The only way it will help with a fever is if the fever is caused by an infection and, even then, it will take several days to have an effect.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

The preferred medication for a fever is usually Acetaminophen, which can start to help within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it.
