Paroxetine Manufacturer Change (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy pharmacy has recently changed the manufacturer from whom they order generic Paroxetine. Are they ANY side effects a patient could encounter from this change? The dosage is the same. I have been experiencing bad headaches and backache since the switch (6 days).

Yes, I get brain zaps which is what some people experience when quitting this medication. I take it faithfully & everything was fine until they started making generics & I have symptoms as if I skipped a few days of taking this medication.
The most likely culprit is a different filler or binder that is used in the manufacturing process. See if your pharmacy will be willing to order the other manufacturer’s product especially for you. It’s not unusual for them to do this. However, be warned that there is a possibility that your insurance will reject it because there may be a formulary change requiring a specific manufacturer. If so, your doctor will have to do a prior authorization to explain to your insurance company your sensitivity to this generic. It may take a week so don’t wait until the last minute. We see reaxtions with different types of adhesive used in some transdermal patches so you wouldn’t be the first one to need a particular generic.
I take Paroxetine CR 25mg I have not noticed any change in mine at all. It is the same as it always has been. Apotex Corporation makes mine. I don’t know if this helps any. Maybe you should try the controlled release like I have. It works throughout the whole day
Hi Cathy,
A change in manufacturer could mean a change in the amount of active ingredient by a 10% variance in the formulation, which the FDA allows, as well as a whole different set of inert ingredients, any of which you could react to. If it is a generic, I think the allowable variance is as high as 20%. Those are huge numbers. Suppose the brand you was taking was at the high end of that variance and now the other brand is at the low end, that's a 20% - 40% variance. (i.e. - a 10 MG pill could be anywhere from 8 - 12 MG of the active ingredient.)
You can thank the FDA for that 'requirement' that was hand delivered, I'm sure, to them from big Pharma themselves. As 40% of the FDA budget is funded by big Pharma. They are a captured agency and have long ago stopped looking out for the people.
Instead of worrying every month about the generic meds I take, I changed them to the name brand. Previously I had to change Prozac and Synthroid because the generics didn't work. It's a shame that money is more important than our health. I'm fortunate enough to have insurance that will cover all my meds. A suggestion for those having the same problem.

I only use the brand, and trying to get off it for months. This drug is very hard to get off of and having been titrating bit by bit.. I was told to only buy brand when using any anti depressants. It's ridiculously expensive too.

I had to change also. Generic did not work anymore when brand was changed
