Paracetamol Contraindication

My husband is taking various medications for hypertension and cholesterol; he has also been prescribed Paracetamol for arthritic pain. However, he complains that if he takes Paracetamol it makes him sleepy and also causes retching (bile). Is this a common reaction, and if so which painkiller would be suitable for his arthritis?

What are the effects of paracetamol when given to a child?
Is it easily available in medicine shops?
I apologize for calling the component acetaminophen Tylenol, which as most of us know, is the trade name for acetaminophen. I just automatically thought of Tylenol. A common error... But it is very important when a person throws up bile on a regular basis that he have a doctor run tests to be sure the liver is in no way compromised. A steady intake of acetaminophen can cause liver damage. This has become a controversial subject regarding the dosage on packages of acetaminophen aka Tylenol as being too much for the liver to handle. So the dosage schedule has been changed, lowering the intake per 24 hr. period.
Just to clarify, Paracetamol does not have Tylenol in it. Tylenol is a name brand for a product that contains Paracetamol/Acetaminophen, as an active ingredient.
Another way it can cause the bile problem is by causing the stomach to produce more acid.

Are there any other questions?
Paracetamol has tylenol in it and tylenol can be toxic to the liver. If he is throwing up bile, I would by all means check with the doctor to make sure he does not have some sort of liver compromise or damage. Just to be safe....
Yes, those can be normal side effects of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen, he may also experience headache and stomach irritation.
It's really difficult to know what else he could take, without knowing the other medications he is on. There are some that should not be taken with other medications, or if he has any heart concerns, with his high blood pressure.
Has he consulted his doctor? They would be best able to advise him on what he can use safely.
