Pain Management Or Lack There Of
UpdatedI was prescribed 60mg Morphine ER twice a day with 10mg norco up to 6 tablets a day for 2.5 years. I always took it as prescribed never asked for early prescriptions. A few months ago my rheumatologist sent me to a pain dr for management because he said I am too young (35) to be on this many narcotics. The new dr is super nice and you can tell he wants to medicate me to manage my pain but has changed my medication around all over the place to doses that are too low or medications that don't work or cause side effects. I was managed on the morphine and norco and told him I didn't need him to change anything but to just give me a new rx. Because of the DEA and FDA he wanted to see if there were medications that would help that aren't as controlled by the DEA. Because of the agonizing pain I have been in I call his office constantly begging for some compassion and relief. He says his hands are tied due to the DEA and DOJ. How is it that being on a medication the helped me function to trying all these other meds that don't work is not enough documentation for the DEA to keep their nose out of my quality of life? I live in southern California and will be moving next month to northern Idaho. Is their a difference in treatment and management from state to state? Why should I be dying of cancer or be an older age in order to be functional and comfortable? Medications I have tried that didn't work or caused side effects are: fentanyl patch, lyrica, cymbalta, Nucynta, OxyContin, butrans patch, tramadol ER, savella, neurontin, and Zoloft. A little bit about me: I developed fibromyalgia after having a severe reaction to a antibiotic that caused aseptic meningitis not once but twice in 8 months, didn't realize the antibiotic was what caused the meningitis till I had it again and almost died. Since that time I have also developed DDD in my neck with protruding discs and hashimotos and I'm still being evaluated for other stuff. The fibromyalgia is so incredibly bad I just want to crawl in a ball and die. When did patients loose their rights? How is my suffering fair? Please help me find some understanding in all this. They didn't take alcohol off the market and that kills more people a year then narcotics. Give them back to the people who need them and are responsible with them. How do I get my prescriptions back?
