Pain Clinic Tn That Needs No Referral (Page 2)
UpdatedChronic pain in knees, elbows, neck (also degeneration). Holding down a job with this pain is impossible. Interfers with sleep, walking, standing, just plain daily living. I have a disabled child (5 yrs. & 70 lbs.) and has to be lifted. Pain from doing this is unbearable. Depression is a real problem. No doctor will treat me, have no insurance or money. Right at this time, I can't afford the meds or the doctor, but I need the help desperately.
You can’t tell them you are depressed, that is the problem. When Purdue was committing their OxyContin fraud the sales people were telling doctors that the only people who get addicted to the drug are patients with certain issues, depression being one of them. So for doctors who are still working off of that misinformation, once you mention you are depressed they will not give you pain medication.
Re: money (# 3)
They all require a referral because they don’t want to start at day one and try to diagnose your problem and trial other things and all that crap, they want someone who has already tried everything else, or who already has a diagnosis, or who has had x-rays or scans. Pain clinics are specialists, they don’t want everybody coming in off the street who haven’t even tried PT or something. That’s why they want a referral, they need you to turn up with medical records. They aren’t going to start from scratch to try to help you. They are a specialist, not a PCP.
Re: Louisville (# 7)
Why won’t the Doctor Who won’t give you medication anymore give you a referral? I don’t know of any specialist anywhere who will take a patient without medical records, some kind of x-rays or scans, or any history. They are not primary care physicians, they don’t want to start working on you from scratch, they don’t want to have to diagnose you and try PT for the first time, they want you to come with medical records.
Re: Debbie (# 9)
I’m sorry, you are in a red state, you will probably not get help even if you had insurance. Can you get to Mexico? You can legally buy pain medication over-the-counter in Mexico.
Re: Optimistic (# 22)
You do not need a referral to get a copy of your medical records. Federal Law states patients can get a copy of their medical records. Patients usually have to pay the cost of copying the medical records.
