Re: Steve (# 3)
Steve? first of all, when has the Government ever done anything to help? I have been taking oxycodone for years now 10/325. I will be taking this as the only pill for pain. I was also on Mophine, but I hated how it made me feel. I found out I can get along okay now with just the percocet. I don't know where anyone heard they were going to stop making it, hmmmmmmmmmm strange. Never happen
Re: DAVE (# 7)
ALL of you on OXYCONTIN.!!! Have you not read that OXY has a COATING, a Coating that WILL destroy your TEETH from the inside out. I wonder, what could it be doing to ones bones. I knew immediately when the pharmacy ran out of the old and had the new coated ones. Upset stomach and you know that it travels up your esophagus so it made me rind my teeth 24/7 even eating my mouth skin. So if you have not read prior threads PLEASE know this happens and you can't sue Purdue Pharma bc it's very small in the literature none of us read. Please, I am facing very expensive implants bc of 2 yrs on OxyContin, but only 8 mos on Coated. WOW!!
DILAUDID, (HYDROMORPHONE, GEN.) IS NOT ONLY A VERY POWERFUL MESICATION, ESPECIALLY 8MG TABS, BUT IT CAN COMPLETELY SHUT YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM DOWN. THIS IS ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC IF YOU ARE TAKING ANOTHER LONG ACTING OPIOID, AND DILAUDID FOR BREAKTHROUGH PAIN. IT IS NOT VERY LONG LASTING, BUT ONE MIS-STEP, TAKE IT TOO EARLY, OR TOO OFTEN AND YOU CAN BE IN A WORLD OF DISCOMFORT. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME...TWICE..YOU WILL WISH YOU HAD THE WORST FLU EVER, BECAUSE THE EFFECT IS THE SAME, BUT WORSE..DILAUDID IS A GREAT PAIN MED AND WORKS VERY WELL FOR SHORT DURATIONS BUT IF YOU HAVE CHRONIC PAIN YOU SHOULD ALSO BE ON A LONG ACTING PAIN MED. I TAKE METHADONE 80MG DAY AND 6MG OF DILADID..2MG 3XDAY. WORKS WELL. 8MG DILUADID TABS ARE A PRETTY HEFTY, AND IF YOU ARE TAKNG THEM MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY, TITRATE INTO ANY NEW MED OVER A LITTLE TIME AND YOU HAVE MUCH MORE SUCSESS. GOOD LUCK
WRONG - the DEA has not and WILL be ordering the major drug companies who supply oxycodone products to the pharmacies they have been told to operate as business usual. So they are not doing what you just said at all, and never will, that drug is way to common and used on a daily basis, Oxycodone and OxyContin will ALWAYS BE AVAILBLE!!! it';s simply regulated, you cannot Dr shop anymore!!!!, they regulate theyfore we able to get oxycodone if you are legitiment pain and go a legit Dr.
It amazes me how we (those who legally and legitamitly need it) are being punished for those who abuse it. There is a device that the pharmacy's have where it will dispense the pill at certain times (as Rx. by Dr) but instead of using that, it's better to let those suffering , suffer even more
yes, Dilaudid if taken in the place of oxycodone prevents from getting sick or withdrawl symptoms, may also give the little bit of energy like oxycodone and gets rid of the pain
Dilaudid, in my opinion is not as strong as Oxycodone. But, to make the comparison, the strength of both is needed. For example, my Dr. had me on 30mg of Oxycodone (each pill), but when that became unavailable, he put me on Dilaudid 8 mg (each pill). Oxycodone worked so much better to control my pain, so in my example, the Dilaudid is weaker. But if you're taking for example, an Oxycodone 10 mg. pill, it may be equal or weaker to a Dilaudid 8 mg pill. But Dilaudid in this strength just became unavailable.
To those who are reading this, Oxycodone is not and will not become available anywhere in the U.S. The DEA is sticking its nose where it doesn't belong and is shutting down all of its production because some people use it illegally. But for those of us who need it to relieve and control pain, we are all royally screwed. Instead of targeting the criminals who are pill shopping, selling it, etc., the DEA goes after everyone. This is why our Gov't. sucks!
thanks verwon, Yes , without going into boring specifics, My doctor has offered other solutions to my pain but, of course the narcotic meds seems to allow me to function at my best so far, along with some yoga like exercises.
There really just seems to be crazy stuff going on at all the pharmacies in Florida, though no, there are no facts available as to why.
As to working similar to Oxycodone, yes, Dilaudid is also a narcotic, so in theory, it should work for pain as well as Oxycodone. However, medications don't always work for everyone that tries them.

Hs your doctor offered you any other options or ideas?
