Pain Medication Doctor Needed In Columbia Sc
UpdatedMy husband and I recently moved to South Carolina & have been desperately trying to locate a good pain specialist/doctor near Columbia, SC. I suffer chronic pain from being stabbed in the stomach from a domestic violence attack many years ago. My spleen, gall bladder, and appendix all had to be removed. My small intestines were completely severed, so a good bit of my intestines had to be removed while a temporary colostomy bag was attached to my stomach. I had to wear the bag for 3 months while the intestines healed and then could thankfully be reattached. My vegus nerve was also severed by the knife, so I now have Gastroparesis, a condition where I can only digest around 30% of the food I eat...the rest comes up in extremely violent puking episodes.
I was a mess. Many doctors have said it's a miracle I survived the attack. I believe it was a miracle I survived.
Fortunately, my attacker (aka ex-boyfriend) was convicted; justice served. Many years later and my husband and I recently moved here to South Carolina. We've been trying to locate a good doctor/pain mgmt. practice to manage my chronic pain I experience due to the scar tissue build up and adhesions that have formed all throughout my stomach from the surgery I'd had back when I was stabbed.
I've had numerous ER doctor's, as well as my GP tell me I need pain management to control the flare ups of the stabbing, ice-pick like pain in my lower abdomen I experience some days more than others. Despite this however, every single doctor I go and explain my situation to, I feel like I get automatically pegged as a pill seeker in need of my next fix, which is incredibly embarrassing and degrading to feel that way. After that, those same *judging* doctors will normally do an MRI and/or ultrasound only later to inform me of how substantial the amount of scar tissue/adhesions that was seen in my stomach. After that, I am normally told that all people react differently to adhesions, some much worse than others, handed a 3 - 5 day prescription of oxycodone or roxicet and told to feel better. But what happens after 3 - 5 days pass? I'm right back where I started - suffering and in extreme pain't with nowhere to go for help. For relief.
As embarrassing this is to admit, there are some days I can barely function even getting out of bed, away from my heating pad without some sort of narcotic pain medication. It has become that debilitating at times.
Anyone reading this who knows where to send me or who to recommend near the Columbia, SC area ------PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Thanks ahead of time!!
