Pain Management Doctors In Arkansas Who Have Own Office That Takes Medicaid (Top voted first)

Updated

I have taken methadone for about 9 yrs. and other pain medicines before that. I have chronic pain post polio syndrome, Degenerative arthritis, Degenerative disc. in back due to severe Scoliosis. New laws passed , so my Doctor stopped doing pain management, not sure why. The pain management clinics are expensive and they do not take medicaid. I need a Doctor for pain management that can prescribe pain medication, but who takes medicaid patients. The Disable and poor are out of luck now. Need Doctor from south Arkansas

I too, feel everyones pain, literally!! I have fibro. peripheral neuropathy, 7 ruptured discs, a broken hip that never works right, 1" shorter than the other and hurts with every step. No Dr. I can find wants to ADEQUATELY treat my pain. Not even half way. Now I live in bed, down to 97lbs. @ 5'7" and because I'm 67 years old "they" just say "she's old, let her die". Well, heck with that!! I'm going to fight back. There are over 100 million people in the US, who are not treated or undertreated for pain! Let's do something about it!

Man, i've got a herniated disc as well, Arkansas is the s***tiest place to live if you have a condition where you need opiate narcotic pain medication- There are about half the Drs in town will not write you any kind of pain med, only wanna do injections and epidurals, forget that, but the other half will write you the meds you need, completely depend on the Dr. If you do get stuck going to one of the Pain Referall Doctors and he doesn't believe in Narcotic pain Medicine, just nod and shake and tell him thanks, but no thanks, i'm going to get a second opinion....or third opinion if you have to until you get the relief you need!

I agree, I recently moved to AR, as I was reunited with my HS sweetheart and we are getting married but I had 2 major neck surgeries, I had every level of my lumbar spine fused, a total lamentomy, rods in my back and a broken tailbone. The Dr that I had prior was wonderful, however, I can not go back and fourth. The new Dr that I have, is not as compasionate and I am sure that its because they have way to many patients. The bottom line is that the Gov, is taking control of our healthcare without even knowing us! This is hurting the folks who are truly dealing with pain so bad that all you can do is lay flat on your back! The Dr's are saying they can only write this amount or that amount? It should be based on the Dr, who is the one taking care of the patient and not the Dr who are only able to write this much or that much! I have a very high tolerance for pain med,s. So I am going with the pain pump, hoping that it works. If anyone has any info on experience with a pain pump, please let me know but we as Americans, need to start something! I just am not sure where to begin? Anyone have a suggestions? No one should spend their life, flat on their back as I have for the past 2.5 months, I have had no life and its really unfair as the Gov, has never done a exam on me so how can they tell the Doctors, what they are allowed to prescribe! Spend a day in our Bodies, maybe then it will wake up their eyes!

To clear up misconceptions: It is NOT your doctor making the decision...Medicare and it's control over ALL insurance is behind it! Your insurance company, whichever you have, have threatened physicians to revoke their DEA license if they do not wean and stop certain narcotic pain management meds. Main culprits they want stopped: Oxycodone, Norco, Percocet, Fentanyl and Morphine type drugs. Sedatives, hypnotics, muscle relaxants: Xanax, Soma, Ambien. These are high on the list. I am working full time, have had 4 back surgeries, 1 neck diskectomy, fractured right lower leg with avulsion fracture..knee plate an 12 screws, left knee replacement, and on and on... I have been managed so I CAN be productive with no dosage increase or abuse over 25 years on Norco and Soma. NOW, I have to stop them or my long time physician is threatened to lose her DEA! I am a retired Nurse Practitioner, now a Rehabilitation Director. The ones that have abused the system caused the problem initially; now it is part of OBAMA and HILLARY's plan to cut down on accidental overdose, etc. Thank them, the Federal Government and BIG insurance for the service. : (

Do you know if Arkansas Pain management will prescribe Schedule2 narcotics? I have been on methadone for 16 yrs. for pain and need to probably continue. I was DISMISSED from Dr. Ackermans' pain management for offering to give my appointment to a patient that had driven o7i5 miles, one way, on the wrong day. She was 80 yrs. old and was told to take my seat. THEN, Dr. Ackerman wrote the wrong prescription for me. When I pointed it out, the receptionist said I was being disruptive. SOOOOO, I'm in a mess, right now. HELP, ANYONE!

Working Strong, Medicaid patients not receiving proper care is nothing new. There are reports done regarding the disparities involving Medicaid patients. Medicare does pay a lot more than Medicaid, in almost, if not every state. I worked at a public hospital a number of yrs ago. The thinking then was that Medicaid patients didn't know any different and if they complained, no one would listen to them because of their lack of education and resources. I didn't think it was right, but I noticed that there was truth to it. Unless a patient has had private insurance or been treated by quality private drs, they don't know the difference in quality care and the usual Medicaid standard of care. Ocassionally, there would be a patient that for varies reasons was temporarily on Medicaid that was educated and had resources. When those patients made this known, they received quality treatment.

It angers me beyond words when I see the words "access to quality care for Medicaid patients" because I know that this is not true. If there was enough evidence that the treatment some Medicaid patients receive meets federal discrimination criteria, there would have been something done about it by now. It has gotten much, much worse in recent yrs.

In Louisiana, Medicaid will not pay for a Pain Management Dr and very, very few PCP's or other speciaists will prescribe opiates for chronic pain patients. Each State Medicaid Program and Each Medicaid Managed Health Plan has their own policies, restrictions and limitations regarding some opiates as well as certain other drugs if the patient is also being prescribed opiates.

Up until recently, a dr could be barred from participating in the Medicaid Program but still participate in Medicare. Now, if they are barred from Medicaid, they are also barred from Medicare.

Medicare has sent out letters and other info to Part D Providers regarding Overutilization. I'm sure you are aware of this, but i have put the link below if anyone would like to read more on the topic.

Maxie.. i was just writing you a long reply and it just disapeared right before i hit 'send', ...hmm i just want you to know i was dropped from 5- methadone per 24 hrs. down to 3! this after 12 yrs. of No problems. in my opinion, it seemed to all go to hell shortly after Obama' thought he knew what was best !
I know your pain , I suffer as well. im currently in Kentucky and was going to move to alabama soon to be closer to family but now im scared to go wondering if ill even find a Dr. to give me 3 pain pills a day! We have to find a way to stop being punished, because of the people who are abusing these pain meds. We need a voice that knows the majority of people getting/asking for pain meds. are truthfully suffering.! - Wadester

Ark pain management is by far the most mixed up place you could put your self into! I was a patient there for over 6 yrs, they changed doctors 6 times, which I stuck it out. After that length of time they changed labs, I never once had an issue or failed a drug panel, now they change labs and next thing u know I have failed 3 times and it gets me discharged. I did no wrong, so I investigated to find out what lab they use, I called the director to find out the results each time were inconclusive, yet they would not change my results! With this on my charts they literally have ruined my pain management chances. I have been in p.m. for 15 yrs and never once had a single problem! So be VERY cautious of going to this practice!

May I ask what it is that you are taking? I too have had neuropathy in my legs and feet. One doctor in Fort Smith prescribed Methadone to me (only 20 mgs a day) for 18 years. She never acted like it was a problem, in fact she asked me several times if I wanted to up the dosage and I said no because I did not want to be addicted. I also take 3600 mgs of Gabapentin a day and Effexor. I still feel the pain. It's enough that it affects my daily life. Unless you have chronic pain, people have no idea the suffering you deal with, they just treat you like a drug addict. I was diligent at taking my prescription exactly as it said on the bottle. I don't mean to brag but I was the perfect patient. Thanks to all the drug addicts that abused the privilege of having a medication that would allow chronic pain sufferers to have relief and to have a normal life. We are now left dealing with pain every day and every night. There has to be a doctor out there in our area that can help us. I'm talking about a good doctor... Not one that slips you pills under the table or meets you at the backdoor and sells the narcotics to chronic pain suffers. Our rights to live a normal life have been taken away from us.
