Pain Management Doctors In And Around The Baton Rouge Area That Prescribe Meds To People Who Really Need Them & Accepts Medicaid (Page 3)

Updated

Does anyone know of a doctor in and around the Baton Rouge Louisiana area that will prescribe pain meds that takes Medicaid? I'm seeing a doctor now in Maryland but I really need to move back to Louisiana very sad that your pain keeps you from moving. I have a sister that is terminally ill and sad to say dying...and meds are keeping me from going to take care of her in her final days. Please help

You won't find a Pain Management Dr who will accept Louisiana Medicaid. You may or may not be able to find a dr in another speciality who will rx you pain meds. You can go to United's website and see what drs accept United or you can go to BayouHealth website and go to the Choose A Provider Page, or you can call United and ask them for a dr. The dr has to accept Louisiana Medicaid and be a member of United's network. The majority of Medicaid patients in Louisiana who need pain managment have to pay out of pocket for it.

Go to your Medicaid Health Plans website. Or you can call your Medicaid Health Plan and ask them for dr that accept your plan. You can also go to the BayouHealth website and locate your Medicaid Health Plans website if you don't already have it.

For pain management docs, there quite a few. There listed in book. The last one I saw was Dr. Barritt Johnson. Ask or look up Pain Management Intervention. Be sure u use Intervention cause there's a Clinic, also. That's not him. However, it's gotten very hot out here & docs are real strict. I had been taking Roxi 30s & MS Contin 30 mg. for 10 yrs. I was reduced to same dose MS but dropped to Roxi 10 (which is Percocet 10 without acetaminophen). All clinics are doing that now... cause all docs are getting busted for prescribing too strong meds. Only pain mgnment can write for those meds. If u can handle just Roxi, a wonderful doc is Dr. James Graves at B.R. Clinic. He is not a "croaker" (script writer). I saw him once...told him my injuries and he prescribed Roxi 10 mg. That is legally the strongest he can prescribe. He is just GP not pain management. I chose this drop to get rid of pain mgment docs. All they did for me was get me hooked & leave me NOT high & dry when they got busted. Be careful with ur meds. Pretty soon thats's all you'll have... meds & waiting for meds! I've been picking up my meds for 6 mos. & have never seen him since. No drug panels so far but best thing no BS visits every 2 or 3 mos. u have to pay for! And u and doc know they're BS. Good luck. Shouldn't be hard to find one...but if u r an abuser or dealer will be hard to stay under care.

If the dr is only seeing you every 6 months and is writting you meds for a Schedule II, especially if they accept Medicad, be ready to find another dr. The Laws state a dr must see a patient at least once evry 3 months if they are prescribing Schedule II pain meds to them. They won't be in practice much longer if they are only seing patients once every 6 months. It does not matter what type of dr it is.

Shanna, you can't find a dr who accepts Medicaid by looking in the phone book. They mut accept Medicaid and be a member of your health plan. Louisiana Medicaid will not pay for a Pain Managment Dr. You may find a dr who is not a pain management dr who accepts Medicaid and is on your health plan that will write your pain meds, but it is doubtful. Medicaid patients in Louisiana have to pay cash if they want to see a Pain Management Dr.

But then why does my health plan which is UnitedHealth care community plan list under specialty Pain Management? which started Feb.2015, if Medicaid won't pay for it. They told me by phone they will pay its just that maybe since it started just last month doctors have not started taking it. And of course finding someone who will accept it. One doctor said that they would accept medicaid but only as a secondary plan and that I'd need to purchase a plan to go with it.

UnitedHealth Care no longer has their Community Plan. The person told you it would pay for a Pain Management Dr didn't know what they were talking about. Drs are dropping out of Medicaid right and left, not joining it. Look in your phone book under Pain Management and call the drs and ask if they accept Medicaid Only and be sure and tell them that you are with UnitedHealthCare. When someone has Medicare and Medicaid, that is not the same thing as having Medicaid only. You can't buy a health plan in addiction to Medicaid, at least not in Louisiana. Your best bet will be to try and find a PCP who will rx the pain meds, but they are few and far between and most won't do it for new patients. In Louisiana if you have Medicaid and need pain management, you pretty much have to pay out of pocket and it is very expensive.

United doesn't have any pain managements drs that accept Louisiana Medicaid for chronic pain listed. The ones that are listed work in hospitals with surgery patients. Although I do believe the listing are misleading.because it makes it look like they treat chronic pain. The drs that are listed, United got from the state Medicaid office in Baton Rouge and it is not up to date. Some of the drs only take Medicaid when you're in the hospital and they treat you there, some dropped out of Medicaid a long time ago. It is always best to call a office and verify yourself that a dr accepts Medicaid as well as that they belong to Unted. Your phone book won't tell you what drs accept Medicaid and it also won't tell you what drs are with United, but you can go down the list of names and call and ask. Be sure you tell them that you have Medicaid Only and UnitedHealthCare is your Medicaid Health Plan. Medicaid is your primary, not your secondary.

Ann, if you have Louisiana Medicaid it will not pay for a Pain Management Dr for chronic pain. If you are self pay or have private insurance look in the phone book. If you have private insurance, you can also call your insurance plan and ask who accepts your insurance. If you have Medicare, you can go to the Medicare Physicians Compare website to find a Pain Management Dr who accepts Medicare.

Well mine United healthcare says under specialty pain management. If I could, I'd show you to prove it. It's finding someone who will accept it.

When I was working part of my job was dealing with people on Louisiana Medicaid. I know what Medicaid Receipents are told and and I also know that what they are told is not always correct. There are no new Pain Mangement drs signing up to be Medicaid Providers because Louisiana Medicaid won't pay for a Pain Management dr for chronic pain. They will pay an Anesthesiologist for pain management during surgery.

Also, massive cuts are getting ready to be made to Louisiana Medicaid by Gov Jindal. Drs are dropping out of Medicaid right and left, not signing up for it.

I know that more than likely I will have to pay for office visits to see a pm doctor but I know what I was told.If it's wrong it's wrong whatever but I'm not going to let one person be what I use to find my info from.I do respect your opinion however.I know there will be cuts to Medicaid but I'm disabled and can't afford insurance and it's better than nothing at all.
