Pain Management Doctors In And Around The Baton Rouge Area That Prescribe Meds To People Who Really Need Them & Accepts Medicaid (Page 13)

Does anyone know of a doctor in and around the Baton Rouge Louisiana area that will prescribe pain meds that takes Medicaid? I'm seeing a doctor now in Maryland but I really need to move back to Louisiana very sad that your pain keeps you from moving. I have a sister that is terminally ill and sad to say dying...and meds are keeping me from going to take care of her in her final days. Please help

Love go to Tulane Medical, in New Orleans.They are contracted to the State. They have to accept Medicaid and have Specialist, of all types. They also do surgeries there. The Doctors are teaching doctors also, for Tulane University! They have some really great Doctors!

Dean, University Health, is also a teaching hospital and must accept Medicaid. But, if you need opiates for chronic pain that is not terminal, they won't prescribe them. Others similar hospitals in Louisiana are the same.

I read your post about needing neck surgery & being on medicaid. I used Dr. Ricky Medel at Tulane. He accepts medicaid.

Did Dawn discharge you? I'm sorry but she needs help. She has a controlling nature about her. She leads Dr Barrow around like a little puppy. I was let go also for no good reason and no proop hippa is a bunch of BS.

I have AmeriHealth Caritas via Medicaid. I don't have cancer. I do have several Orthopedic impairments that require repair. I do have documentation of all my problems. I have legitimate pain and need for pain medication. I don't have the need to be on medications forever, I just want to be a little less uncomfortable while I wait to have the things that can be repaired repaired. I know the people that get their medication don't have problems but they paid cash for the visit. As I am on a fixed income I can't afford to pay 350 for an office visit. I'm not looking to make any money, I'm just looking for a little relief until I can be fixed. Would you please provide me with a legitimate doctor that will accept Medicaid and prescribe me medication accordingly? Thank you very much for any help.

Agreed, no one should suffer when modern techniques,treatments or surgery is available to correct those conditions.Perhaps if that was a reality a large portion of patients dependent on these powerful mood and mind altering drugs their dispensed in lieu of appropriate surgical intervention. It's so sad to read post after post of desperate legit chronic pain sufferers going to unimaginable lengths to secure these potent narcotic opiates in order to satisfy there growing dependence on these agents that were never developed for lifetime use.Imagine going through this excruciating process monthly and the stress that only magnifies that pain and need for upward dosing over time.If that isn't hell I don't know what is.Id love to know the number of accidental addicts that resulted from the negligence of the profession to medicate as opposed to rectifying the condition surgically.For those who suffer this indignity God bless you because the medical community as a whole has failed you.

That's the problem the ones who you line the pockets with cash have staff that can bypass some regulatory restraints OR can afford specialty staff that exclusively deals with these issues. Unfortunately practices that accept Medicaid receive a fraction to what others that can bill for. To be fair many folks who can have interventional pain treatments or surgery refuse because either they fear these procedures or simply desire the effects of these opiate pain killing drugs. That's what providers who refuse to prescribe these opiates say in there defense . So as you can see it's a complicated issue and it's hard to know who's telling the truth.I hope you find relief once and for all God bless

I apologize to differ but a simple diagnosis as critical as that may be is not the sole predicated qualifying factor that ssi/sdi uses to establish eligability for benefits,In addition financial considerations and standards are used to quantify need. If you were initially rejected your only real option is to retain counsel to file an appeal on her behalf.Hope that helps

Allison, Louisiana Medicaid Will Not Pay For A Pain Management Doctor. If your doctors wont prescribe pain meds and you can't pay cash, there isn't anything else you can do.

Donoharmwhatajoke, financial need is only considered with SSI. A certain number of work credits are required for SSDI. The claimant must prove with medical and non medical evidence they are not able to perform SGA, which in 2016 is $1,1300 a month before taxes. A diagnosis is required, but it takes much more to be approved. Working has to be more than difficult and not being able to find a job is not enough. A doctor saying a patient cannot work is not enough because doctors do not know SSA Disability Criteria.

Hillsborough, there is nothing wrong with a doctor recommending a patient move to where medical marijuana is legal. By the way, medical marijuana was legalized in Louisiana recently for the treatment of "patients clinically diagnosed as suffering from glaucoma, symptoms resulting from the administration of chemotherapy cancer treatment or spastic quadriplegia;" It will have to be obtained by prescription from designated pharmacies. Private insurance, Medicare nor Medicaid will pay for Medical Marijuana.

Thanks for responding. My PCP is also an Internalist. I've done my homework on what they can/cannot do,can/cannot prescribe. What I read specifically stated that they DO NOT have to refer ANY patients to other specialists. Pain management included. My PVP insists that he can't prescribe anything stronger or any more than he is presently prescribing me. I've done everything asked of me. Including loosing weight,75 lbs. since Feb.,quit smoking,going on 2 years. I've been psychiatricly evaluated 2×. I've seen every specialists. Taken every test. Started exercising & attending physical therapy 3× a week. He has the authority to prescribe. He also accepts Medicaid.My last office visit revealed an ugly truth. My PCP is a liar. Not only does he prescribe stronger & more, my injuries are extremely more severe than the patients that he's choosing to prescribe stronger meds to.

Allison, any doctor can prescribe opiates for chronic pain. But, it is up to each individually doctor to decide which meds they want to prescribe, if any and to which patients. A doctor does not have to prescribe opiates to any patient. He can also prescribe opiates to some patients and not to others. It is common for a doctor to not prescribe opiates to Medicaid patients, but to prescribe them to other patients that are not Medicaid patients. There is not anything you can do about this, except change PCP's. But, it is highly unlikely you will find a PCP that will prescribe you opiates for chronic pain, at least in Louisiana. Why don't you go ahead and have the surgery they say may help with your pain ? You do need to be aware that the surgery may make the pain worse. You may want to get a copy of your medical records and see what your doctor has written in them. What your current doctor has writen in your medical records may or may not have an impact on what another doctor will prescribe you. You will have to pay for a copy of your medical records.

BL there are doctor's that will prescribe pain meds. I know some here in Baton Rouge and some in New Orleans. Let me find the contact information and I will get back here on the forum.

I'm definitely going to have both of my knees replaced. The surgeon's stipulations,which I agreed,I needed to get my weight down to 240 pounds. I was ,still am,morbidly obese. I'm doing great as I'm down to 251 since Feb. As soon as I reach the goal weight in going to schedule the 1st surgery ASAP. Although I have severe back,neck& nerve damage think getting my knees replaced will d wonders. I can handle that pain. My goal is to do away with meds all together. Until then,I'm willing & able to pay cash for a visit. Any doctors knew would be greatly appreciated.

Babs, if you have Medicaid, you cam go to your Medicaid Health Plan's website and look for a list of providers. Be sure to call and verify the doctor accepts Medicaid and is accepting new patients because the websites and health plans are not current. But, there are no pain management doctors that accept Louisiana Medicaid.
