Pain Management Doctors In And Around The Baton Rouge Area That Prescribe Meds To People Who Really Need Them & Accepts Medicaid (Page 12) (Top voted first)

Updated

Does anyone know of a doctor in and around the Baton Rouge Louisiana area that will prescribe pain meds that takes Medicaid? I'm seeing a doctor now in Maryland but I really need to move back to Louisiana very sad that your pain keeps you from moving. I have a sister that is terminally ill and sad to say dying...and meds are keeping me from going to take care of her in her final days. Please help

Allison, any doctor can prescribe opiates for chronic pain. But, it is up to each individually doctor to decide which meds they want to prescribe, if any and to which patients. A doctor does not have to prescribe opiates to any patient. He can also prescribe opiates to some patients and not to others. It is common for a doctor to not prescribe opiates to Medicaid patients, but to prescribe them to other patients that are not Medicaid patients. There is not anything you can do about this, except change PCP's. But, it is highly unlikely you will find a PCP that will prescribe you opiates for chronic pain, at least in Louisiana. Why don't you go ahead and have the surgery they say may help with your pain ? You do need to be aware that the surgery may make the pain worse. You may want to get a copy of your medical records and see what your doctor has written in them. What your current doctor has writen in your medical records may or may not have an impact on what another doctor will prescribe you. You will have to pay for a copy of your medical records.

I'm definitely going to have both of my knees replaced. The surgeon's stipulations, which I agreed,I needed to get my weight down to 240 pounds. I was ,still am,morbidly obese. I'm doing great as I'm down to 251 since Feb. As soon as I reach the goal weight in going to schedule the 1st surgery ASAP. Although I have severe back, neck& nerve damage think getting my knees replaced will d wonders. I can handle that pain. My goal is to do away with meds all together. Until then,I'm willing & able to pay cash for a visit. Any doctors knew would be greatly appreciated.

Babs, if you have Medicaid, you cam go to your Medicaid Health Plan's website and look for a list of providers. Be sure to call and verify the doctor accepts Medicaid and is accepting new patients because the websites and health plans are not current. But, there are no pain management doctors that accept Louisiana Medicaid.

I need a primary doctor in Baton Rouge that will see me. I got general issues but I also see a pain management doctor. Can anyone refer me to a doctor?

Rita, Louisiana Medicaid will not pay for a Pain Management Doctor. Most primary doctors that accept Louisiana Medicaid won't prescribe pain meds for chronic pain. You need to contact your Medicaid Health Plan or start calling Primary Care Doctors in your area to see if they accept Medicaid and if they are accepting new patients. If you call your Medicaid Health Plan, they will give you the names of doctors that accept Medicare and Medicaid along with doctors that accept Medicaid Only. The only way to know which doctors accept Medicaid Only is to call them yourself.

Re: BL (# 118) Expand Referenced Message

They have sooo many PM doctors who will allow self-pay. They don't take cash anymore but accept credit/debit card or money orders.

Do u realize that u are constantly contradicting urself? Please stop responding to posts. It's annoying that every other ones is you. First I repeatedly post Medicaid does not pay for PM doctors! Now ur saying a doctor may prescribe medicine for chronic pain but not many of them. Then ur questioning why someone receives Medicaid and can afford to pay for PM. Are you a CPP???. I am. I have Medicare and Medicaid. My insurance covered my doctor visit for years until my doctor left his practice. Unless ur a CPP and know what it's like to live with debilitating pain every single day, u have no right to judge anyone or their circumstances much less how they would be able to afford paying for a PM doctor when they receive Medicaid. Do u know how many CPP have to pay cash for their visits? Too many...many of those patients have to give up medicine they receive from their PM doctor in order to find money to pay for the visit. Thankfully I am married and don't have to worry about that but ur no one to judge.
According to you:
Louisiana Medicaid will NOT pay for PM doctors. Yet several people have posted names of pain management doctors who do! Any doctors can prescribe pain medicine but not many do for chronic pain. I'm simply stating what u have so everyone remembers not that u give us a chance to forget.

Re: BL (# 191) Expand Referenced Message

Actually Oxy Contin does have to do with oxytocin. Oxytocin is produced by the body naturally to help with regular pain management. Once a patient is on heavy pain medications such as methadone, Oxycontin, etc., ur body no longer produces oxytocin the way it should. As long as a person is on pain medicine is how long it will take for the body and brain to reprogram itself. If someone's on pain medicine for 10 years, it takes just as long off of them

I worked with those receiving Medicaid and other government assistance for many years. Medicaid is based on income. So is Medicare Savings Program which helps low income individuals on Medicare pay their Medicare Expenses.

Yes, However they will except both Medicare and Medicaid as a supplement meaning you’ll have zero co-pay

You have two choices. Travel once a month to your doctor or just have your doctor give you your medical records that’s he/she has been treating you and you should be fine.. Without your records you won’t even get your foot in the door.. I’m so sorry about your sister..It’s painful to watch our loved ones suffer.
