Pain Doctors Alabama
UpdatedMy dr in Mont., AL has been prescribing me 3 80mg oxycontin for several years. My visit last week he refilled my script and said it could be the last because he was told there was diversion possibly coming from his practice. Btw that was 3 a day. If he doesn't refill my script on my next visit, I need to find a Dr. quick. Is it legal not to wean a patient off? The pain clinics in this town are full.
If he cannot continue to prescribe, he should be able to refer to another doctor or clinic that will accept his current patients. Has he suggested anyone?
And yes, it is perfectly legal for a doctor to stop prescribing your medications, even if they are habit forming, at any time. They are not obligated to treat you or prescribe anything, unless you are in life threatening danger.
As a courtesy, however, most doctors that lose their prescribing privileges, retire or move their practices, will set something up with another doctor or doctors, that are willing to take over their patients.

Thanks for your responce but the situation has been rectified. The problem was a nurse who would not let pharmacists speak to the DR to confirm the class2 scrips. He never lost the ability to write the scrips. I've always considered him a friend and told me before that he would never cut me off. As I said in my previous post he didn't seem his normal self. He's had to fire 2 nurses for writing their own scrips and I think he had to think it through.
I am very glad to hear that the problem has been solved, but it is really awful that it happened to begin with.
Yes, under the new laws that were put in place a few years ago, as I'm sure you're aware, no one but an actual doctor is allowed to write prescriptions for controlled substances, such as narcotics or Benzodiazepines. Even physician's assistants or nurses that are licensed to practice can no longer write them.
It may have been a hard decision for him, but in light of the situation, it was probably his only remaining option. The nurses definitely know better.

Is you have anything else you need help with, feel free to post and ask, at anytime!
No unfortunately 30 days is all they have to do. But if your doc is compassionate at all he should refer you or wean or give you something else to help your pain. I know it sucks I have been in PM for 6 yrs. I tried to live up in fort Payne I bought my home in cash and tried to relax and did until my Dr could not treat me anymore BC I lived out of state. For 3 yrs I only had to see my doctors every 3 months but then I got 30 day refill and had to move. I loved it up there but couldn't find a Dr. Very stressful sitution for me and you. I now live back in my home state of FL I found new doc here but drug addicts making hard for good Dr to prescribe.
I am trying to find a physician in Montgomery Alabama that will treat back pain, fibromyalgia and CFS. I need a physician that is compasionate and that believes that Fibro pain is real. I don't necesarily need a pain clinic, just a doctor that is willing to prescribe mild pain meds and other regimine of meds that I am on. I would really appreciate ANY info. tierd of suffering.
Well, I hope you find a Dr in Montgomery. I sencerely wish you lot of luck.
I am now trying a different strategy. I'm trying find someone to trade me homes. Mine is almost brand new and paid off. I would like to trade a home with 10acres for something similar in Florida. I'm not very hopeful but thought II was achance. This economy is a mess, but all else fails guess I"l be living on the mountain in Fort Payne suffering in severe pain. Until then I'm still searching. I wish everyone luck in their tasks. Have a low pain day.
P.s I honestly think Dr's in Alabama are illiterate to chronic pain.
could you possibly give me the name of your dr. in alabama? do you know if he would be willing to see someone with a florida ID? It is such a mess down here that I do not even want to bother with any of these clinics anymore. There are cutting everyones scripts in half and I have to many problems to have to settle for that. thank you.
I've been having problems with my own Doctor who cut my prescription of the last 7 years by 1/3 and again by 1/3. Now I cannot work, I've lost a job and I lie in bed all day, unable to even walk my dog. Any chance you'd share who your doctor is?

This is ridiculous...How would they feel if the only life you get to live is up to someone else's discretion whether it be in agonizing pain. Remember people.....We only do this once...(life)....Who are you to think you can see pain inside another human being.....
Reese, your coming across like a DESPERATE addict! Why do people need pain pills? Try walking or exercising...GEEZ! And I bet the whole lot of you are on Medicaid too.....go figure.....
The whole lot if us in pain are not on Medicaid and why r unresponding if you don't have pain. Most people with pain have other problems like OVARIAN CANCER or other problems, don't judge until you feel real pain yourself. Exercise is good until you stop then the pain comes back

My recent dr, quit his practice over a year ago and I had to be weaned off my medications, and now I am in chronic pain. I need a pain Dr. I can see and can treat me. I just need a doctor to keep working with me until my pain is under control. I am on diss. I can't work. There is no reason I should be in so much pain I want to die when there is medicine available to stop the pain. I take 30mg morphine 3Xday and 15mg morphine ER 2X a day and it does not work. I just need taken seriously. I want to go to heaven but suicide is NOT in my future. I just want to have no pain.???
Does anyone know of any pain med drs inin Columbus, OH? My Dr has me on oxy 80mg and has stopped as of two days ago and I have been on narcotic meds since the 70s. I will run out tomorrow and I am scared to death.
I was diagnosed in 2009 finally with fibromyalgia. I didn't realize the depression it would throw me into nor did I realize that nothing out there was going to work for me. The opiates nearly killed me. All the meds they currently have, i.e., Lyrica, Cymbalta, Savella, Tramadol, Effexor, etc., nothing works. So I hibernate in my room all day, after day, after day. I keep hearing about cannabis and how well it works. Does anyone know anything about this?
You might want to try the Doleys Clinic.....that would be your best bet I think.
Reese, If u don't mind me asking what part of Georgia are these Dr's in that will c out of state patients if they have s birth certificate. I'm in SE Alabama, and the ONLY pain doctors are at least 2 hrs north or east of here. I don't need a large dose of meds, but someone who will write them based on my med history, be understanding, and listen to me. If these Dr's are in Columbus, Albany, Valdosta, or even south of Noonan, I would live to have names/numbers. Thanks.
Just moved to Dothan,Al and in desperate need of a pain management Dr. I have lupus sle and fybromyalgia along with post concussion. Survived chemo and radiation. I want to be able to have some sort of life without constant pain. Please help if you know any Dr's that are willing to write. Even can travel to Georgia. Thanks

Re: Miss kitty (# 40)
Hi Miss kitty, I believe #22 reply was for Tim #11 due to his disdain for people that needs pain meds! And I say this bcuz he seemed to be the ONLY a-hole on here throwing jabs and insinuations at those in need of medical help! Please stay, as you will find much resourceful information here! Be blessed!
Re: Feel empathy or leave (# 22)
Almost 2 years ago I was begging borrowing and stealing from state to state for my pill habit alone nothing has ever controlled me like that and nothing ever will again sorry I will get off here I did not mean to offend anybody just telling you what work for me
I live in Marshall county, Alabama and I need a new pain Dr that prescribes meds (not shots), even if it's in Georgia or Tennessee. Help!
Hi, I have been seeing a pain specialist for 16 years after a botched spinal fusion on multiple disk. All was good for years until he had to start testing me and I was caught with marijuana in my system. I had been consuming marijuana for 25 years and stopped a few years ago. Now I am having to take more and more opioid meds. Marijuana helped my meds to be so much more effective. Does anyone know of a marijuana friendly pain doctor in Alabama? The CDC even states that pain doctors don't have to test for marijuana. Thanks for any help or info. Sincerely
I wish everyone luck finding a pain management doctor. I never, ever, ever would've moved to AL if I had known how I'd be looked down on and made to feel embarrassed for needing pain management. I'm 57 yrs old, disabled, and have never been treated like this. The name of pain doctors here are like a national treasure...meaning they're a big secret. My chart was requested from my prior (and sorely missed, no pun intended. lol) pain doc from FL, whom I had seen for 14 years. After my new GP doctor received it I got 4 weeks of steroids. Woo-hoo. I'm going to sell my house and get the hell out of this state as soon as I can, but it'll probably be a couple of years until I can sell. Until then I'll sit on my couch looking outside my window wishing to be out enjoying it, but can't enjoy much at all because there's too much pain.
Hello. I have a knot on my right hip in the back. It shoots pain down my butt and my right leg goes numb. Some days I can't walk or if I'm on it for any length of time it will give and I will fall. I also have bone marrow problems on the right side. Also I have 2 pulled muscles on the right side. One in my right butt cheek and 1 right above the right cheek. I have no insurance but I really need one. I had MRI's done when I had insurance. I really need help. I'm having trouble in Alabama finding a Dr that takes cash pay. Thank you.
I need a pain management dr in Birmingham that will prescribe the pain medication I need.
Re: Julie (# 31)
Julie, I know with methadone clinics it's a case by case basis, but I think there's a good chance from what you are describing.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Not always. My spine specialist in New Orleans had prescribed me 4-80mg oxycontin ER a day along with 5-30mg oxycodone IR a day. He moved into a new practice with other doctors and within 6 months was walked out through the waiting room in handcuffs. The other doctors in the practice refused to treat me because of the amount of medication I was prescribed from him. I've been having trouble ever since locating a new doctor.
