Polymyalgia & Prednisone

IF I TAKE LOW DOSE PREDNISONE FOR PMR, HOW CAN I AVOID MOONFACE AND WEIGHT GAIN?

Don t know if this will happen or not, but prednisone, causes rises in blood sugar, you may have to keep a check on it an may require insulin, I m no Dr. just a hillbilly, speak with your Dr. in regards to this info.

Martha, I've been on prednisone for 4 years for Polymyalgia, starting with very high dosage, but now down to 10 mgs. per day. The moon face may have gone down a little, but I look nothing like I did before I started the prednisone. At this point, I am still puffy faced, puffy belly, puffy back, and have bruises all over my arms and hands. The least little bump causes a bruise and/or the skin to peel as the skin becomes very thin. Of course, with all the ugly side effects, depression is hard to keep at bay.

I have been on prednisone for 7 months, for polymyagia and sjogrens, two months ago I didn't know what "moon face" was now I look in the mirror and I know. How very depressing. I am on 9 mg per day, everytime my dr. lower my dose to 8 The pain is so bad I go back to 9. The weight gain is also very depressing, Can't fit into anything:( My job of 20 years is so very hard everyday and i don't know how much longer I can work (12hour days)
