Wow, i'm really sorry that your doctor treats you like that. They should have never said something like "get off of it and see if it is ",
My only advice to you would be to find another PM doctor.
Hi Tapp,
Just wanted to offer a second opinion regarding the situation with your doctor not listening to you or helping you wean off at all. The way she said "get off of it and see if it is helping", goes to show that she doesn't care whether you experience withdrawals or not. If there was anyway to record/report some of the things being said like that, you'd probably get her license revoked for malpractice.
As a patient and paying customer, this doesn't sound like the type of person anyone should "do business with", especially when it comes to something as sensitive as your health and well-being. A good Dr. IMHO, should be able to be more attentive to their patient's needs/requests - and if s/he disagrees, you'd think they'd have the etiquette to take a moment of their precious time to explain why.
But as I've come to learn from my own experiences, most of them are just in it for the money and not for the betterment of their patients.
With that said, all you can really do is gradually switch doctors until you find one with some morals. I hope this info helps and wish you good luck on your search if that's what you decide to do.
More and more drs are stopping increasing the dosages of these strong meds. By her telling you to get off of it to see if it is helping seems to be her way of saying she isn't going to increase the dosage or go to a stronger med. People don't understand that they can't continue to go up indefinately on these meds. You may not find another dr who will prescribe you anything stronger or increase the dose. You may not find a dr who will prescribe you anything as strong as what you're on now. If you change drs, your new dr will need a copy of your medical records from your old dr. You may want to get a copy and read exactly what she has written. Has she asked you to do anything like PT, stop smoking, lose weight, have diagnostic test run, etc that you haven't done ? More and more drs now are also having their patients use other forms of pain management that don't involve medications like seeing a psychologist who works with chronic pain patients.
