Oxymorphone Er Generic By Global Pharmacy (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Hi,

Since I heard that Impax finally got the green light to distribute Oxymorphone ER (Opana ER) generic through Global Pharmacy. I didn't hesitate to rush to my PM doc and he instantly had me switch to this new drug. He prescribed me 40 mg twice per day to treat my busted back & fibromyalgia.

I noticed the pill is round in shape with G74 on one side with nothing on the other. The color for the 40 mg ER tablet is an orangy/gold color. Ever since Endo ruined their product with the new TRF formulation. I promised myself to jump back on the bandwagon as soon as the generics were released.

Today is a great day for all who suffer chronic pain. Yay! 8-)

what chain pharmacies carry generic opana ers (20mg) in so. fla? everywhere i have gone tells me there IS no generic which i know to be false. publix, cvs, walgreens, etc. wtf?

I live in Texarkana, Texas. Right on the Texas- Arkansas state line. Also only 30 mins from La state line. After going to my current Pain Management doctor for almost 7 years, he came to my appt in March saying there are new rules that will be coming down in the near future, so he is letting go any patients w red flags and cutting everyone back on their meds. He works for a pain management office whose owners own 3-4 more offices in Arkansas. The next appt the doctor told me if he didn't cut everyone back, the government could eventually close their doors and that's not something the owners will tolerate. Whether we are in pain or not, we were going to continue to be cut back. Each appt since then, he has continually cut back my pain medicine. My pain level has gone sky high and quality of life is pretty much non existent at this point. I am 48 and have a young son who requires my involvement w/ him at all times. I can't just check out..I have gone to this doctor for so many years. He was vital in helping me find the right meds that worked for me without over medicating. I had come to him after going to a different pain management doctor (it was the first one I had ever gone to) who was over medicating me on methadone. My current doctor worked w me and after months of trying different things, finally found something that worked without it being TOO MUCH. He was the one who helped me so very much when I applied for disability and his testimony was the final factor that allowed it to be approved. I have sang his praises for years and have done exactly like he's said to do and have referred him to many, many people. Now, to my utter amazement and horror, he has started telling me that it's all in my head! I have been totally flabbergasted and feel betrayed. I have been cut back 3 tabs of oxycodone 30 and hydrocodone 10/325 within the last 4 months. After being such a kind, compassionate doctor who believed in me. Fought for me, supported me, and KNEW I WAS IN PAIN...he has turned into a hardened doctor overnight who was at first acting like his bosses would not tolerate any audits that would lead to them losing a business to just telling me that my pain is all in my head. I HAVE to find another Pain Management doctor within an hours drive from my home in Texarkana, Tx. If anyone can point me in the right direction of a caring, compassionate doctor who is willing to help someone w/ legitimate pain and desperately needs help, please, PLEASE write to me and point me in the direction I need to go. I've got to find a new doctor right away. I'm pretty much a creature of habit and not the type of patient who is always on the lookout for a newer or better doctor. As long as I can find a good doctor who will help me, I will be forever loyal to him....

My advice would be if you want to remain a patient of this pharmacy pick a pharmacist you like and who doesn't give you any trouble. The week you drop off your script ask that pharmacist what days he/she works and go on that day. Otherwise switching pharmacies is your only safe bet. I normally fill at Kroger but once or twice I have needed to use walgreens when my pharmacy didn't have the drug, my script was 6 days early and they have no problem holding it that long. So whoever told you they cannot keep the script is lying. The pharmacist is trying to cover up the pharmacies incompetence. Basically they are saying things are such a disaster here we WILL lose your prescription if we keep it. There is no law or rule stating they can't keep it. Both my kroger and walgreens both hold mine all the time. If you have another choice I suggest trying somewhere else. That walgreens sounds like a hot mess. There is no advice for intolerance. If they give you any more trouble call them out on it. Let them know you feel they are treating you badly because you are a pain patient, and that you are not a fool. Little secret....most pharmacists assume patients are dumb or have no understanding of the medication or policies. That is why I let them know up front that I am a pharmacist and I fully understand what is happening. You sound intelligent use that to your advantage. Also there are no real red flags and even if they did come up with some stupid flag system that would have nothing to do with you and your doctor. As long as you follow the doctors rules that is all that matter. The pharmacist used the term red flag to scare you into doing what they wanted. From your post I didn't understand why they had to contact the doctor in the first place. Why? I know more than anyone the problems with filling pain medication and being on the other side. Most of the chronic pain patients came to me with their problems and questions and I loved helping them. Pharmacists take an oath as well to treat their patients with integrity without bias and of course do no harm. Well it is harmful for a pain patient to be out of medication. That is all the info I can think of right now but let me know why they needed to call the doctor and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Curious80, that's too bad that the Impax isn't working for you, I guess everyone has a different metabolism. I was in NY in 2010 for about 6 months to sell my house. That's when my original PM doctor since 2005 first prescribed me Opana. He had prescribed me 30mg ER tablets one pill twice a day. The Opana was $200 a month and there was no generic. I did some research and found Oxymorphone 15mg ER tablets and the pharmacy accepted the script written as Opana 15mg ER 2 pills twice a day. It was always a hassle and the PM doctor put me on Fentanyl patches which I thought worked well. I found a patch in a medical supply store that went over the fentanyl patch holding it in place extremely well. When I moved back to CA my PM doctor there insisted that in San Diego's climate that the patch would never remain in place so he switched me back to the Oxymorphone 15mg ER, 2 pills twice a day. Now in Texas, I can get the Oxymorphone and my PM doctor here just increased my dose to 40mg ER twice a day. These are the Impax brand and as I stated they work well for me. I'm also prescribed Oxymorphone 10mg IR 4 times a day for breakthrough pain that's from another company, not Impax. I think I'm going to ask this PM October to switch me back to the Fentanyl patch as they worked well for me and having a cognitive impairment I don't have to worry about missing a dose or taking an extra dose, I can put the patch on every three days and not worry about missed doses and still have the IR pills for breakthrough pain. As I had stated and most seem to have similar experiences are the issues with some of these pharmacists. Just because of the continuing opioid "epidemic" and the people who abuse the medication and the PM system, us folks who legitimately need the medication, go to a PM doctor and do all the things we are supposed to be doing have to suffer because of the people who abuse the system. I don't appreciate being thrown into the "drug seeker" category. Although I'm sure that there are exceptions, I didn't work a 23 year career in law enforcement, retire and then decide to take up drug abuse in retirement rather than golf, fishing, etc. I developed a rare disease from 5 months of daily exposure to the toxic cloud that hung over lower Manhattan after 9/11. Its cyclical and puts me in the hospital ER about every 3 months. Because of all of the blood work at the hospital and my doctors office, I have developed some scarring on my veins. Because of this I am almost always classified as a drug seeker especially since one of the meds needed to treat this excruciating condition is Dilaudid. Again, it's absurd being vilified for being on narcotic medication because of somebody else's issues. I've seen people on here that state that the tamper proof pills, whether they be OxyContin or Opana either don't work or aren't very effective. I only took the tamper proof Opana while in the hospital for about 7 days and didn't really notice their effectiveness, probably because of the myriad of other medications that they were giving me. Regardless of the tamper proof formula that these company's use, inevitably the people that want to abuse them are going to find a way to do it. I worked in narcotics back in 1994-1997 in Harlem. There was no opiate issue back then, just heroin which a lot of these opiate abusers are turning to in lieu of the tamper proof formulas and the prices the drug dealers are charging for the regular pills that they can still abuse. I still keep in touch with people still on the job and also through fraternal police organizations. Apparently there are ways to manipulate the tamper proof pills by use of acetone and other nasty, deadly chemicals. Once again, the people who are in chronic pain due to any number of legitimate medical conditions or accidents have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get the care and proper medications needed to try and live a somewhat normal and hopefully productive lifestyle. Dealing with these pharmacists who try to play doctor or interject their own personal views on whether or not someone should be prescribed narcotic medication is absurd. They should be professionals and do the job they are paid to do. All their unnecessary meddling does is cause undo stress for the patients just trying to get their meds and feel better.

I'm in Florida so... It's made by GLOBAL IMPAX oxymorphone that's really all you should need. Just ask doc to write it out EXACTLY As: oxymorphone ER 30mg tablet extended release, 12 hr

I totally agree Ann on every side of what u hav written. We had little reason to believe that as physicians that they wld ever turn their backs on us as most hav done, as they were so kind & caring 4 the last 6 years then January hit & their real faces were revealed to me anyway. Unfortuneately, I now hv little to no trust in in Drs in general & I recognize that needs to change, as I hav always maintained a fairly good attitude in regard to them helping or @ least trying in the past. I usually will take responsibility if I am wrong abt something or even only partially incorrect, I can move fwd, however in the pain debackle that has hit us, countered with what they have underhandedly done to all of us as whole, I No longer hav respect 4 them in the medical field. Again I am giving 2 God to help me through this & will never be disillusioned again with any1 regarding my health concerns as it's all abt 2 dry up?????????? ??2 all of you & remain keen & aware!

Will anything work like oxymorphone for 3 herniated discs, 2 collapsed discs, scoliosis, 1 bulging disc, sciatica, RA and Osteoarthritis? It's the only thing that worked.

So I just filled my oxymorphone 30mg ER's at my local Walgreens. I have new insurance same company difderent HMO. I was nervous about the price going up significantly but it stayed really low at around 123 bucks witch is really good. No problem filling and I still love my pharmacist and techs who treat me so well and like@a human being not a drug seeking low life. I love my girls and im never leaving there. Thought I'd share my story that everything is still good filling these oxymorphones

cali, thanks for your reply. i have been on opana 40s for about 7 8 yrs i think. i can't believe my prayers might be answered. these 40's i am currently on by endo suck. my pain has been so severe. lifeflight from a motorcycle acc in 94, i have been struggling. tomorrow i will call my pharmacy and try to get the ball rolling. to think my pain might be eased somewhat . thank you cali.

Can opana er 40 mg display itself as morphine in a ua? The pharmacy told me that opana er breaks down to morphinee and my doctor kicked me out as a patient I just want to make sure if this is true because if it is I'm going back to pain Management and tell them they keicked me out under false pretences

Opana may come up as oxy on some tests.
The reason why is because oxycodone breaks down into oxymorphone in your body. Only a lab can actually determine if you have oxycodone or oxymorphone.

There is no way that Opana/oxymorphone will show as morphine on a d/s.

In Florida CVS, Walgreens and Publix's can order Oxymorphone from their supplier company. It isn't listed as the generic of Opana. It is listed as a substitute for Opana so they have to order Oxymorphone HCL ER 20mg (or what ever the mg is). Most places want the script wrote out that way also. CVS has a hard time ordering these every month because they have a limit on pain medicines they can order every month. Publix's has them every month. Walgreens I'm not sure how they handle these. I have found that the small mom & pop pharmacy can also order them. You need to find just one pharmacy to order them for you every month so you don't have go around to different ones every month. I use the same pharmacy for all my medicines..

Yes go to Publix!
A Good idea is to vring all your prescriptions or at least the bottles into the pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacy manager.
Make sure you look presentable and be very polite when you talk to them.
Let them know that you are looking for a pharmacy that you can fill all of your meds at every month instaed of having to go to several different places each month.
They definatly can get the generic oxymorphone Er tabs . Ands they also can get the generic instant release oxymorphone made by Teva which in my opinioon are way better than the generic Roxanne oxymorphs. They will even take those discount cards if you dont have insurance.
I am telling you Publix is really cool about wanting to get your business.
It is so important to keep a good friendly relationship with the pharmacy staff.
I never have to worry about my meds being in stock or not. They are on top of things there and will always make sure to have your meds in stock since they know by their computer system ahead of time that you are due for a new script.
I think I am the only customer at my particular Publix that is on the strength and quantity of oxymorphone. They never have had an issue filling my script the day I being it in,
One thing that is a little bothersome is the long wait to get your script ready. I seem to aways have to wait at a minimum of 30-45 minutesand sometimes the wait is about 2 hours. But its well worth it since I never have to drive all over town trying to get my scripts filled and being treating like s*** by other pharmacies.
I have heard that a few Publix pharmacists have been refusing to order the new gneric oxymorphone Ers, but luckily not the Publix I go to.
I guess it is up to the pharmacy manager i they want to carry Schedule II pain meds or not.

I hope I am not jinxing myself since I am getting my new scripts tommorow and will need to get them filled!

coolioni, are you still able to get the generic oxymorphone er from Publix? How is this different from opana er? Does it still have the plastic stuff inside of it that causes stomach distress? I could not take the new formulation of opana er or oxycontin op because of how much it tore up my stomach. I wonder if the generic has the same inactive ingredients in it, do you know? My pain mgmt doctor is demanding I chose one or the other but I can't handle them due to stomach distress. Hope this new generic will not do that. I wonder too if the pain mgmt doctor will be willing to write a script for generic?

The new generoc oxymorphone ER are just like the old formulation Opana Er. They do not contain any of the plastic garbage like the new Opan ER or the OP oxys.
Your doctor must write the script for " oxymorphone ER " not Opana ER.
some pharmacists may be a prick about giving you the generic oxymorphone over the opana Er. the reason why is becuase these generic oxymorphones are not a direct generic AB equivalant to the new Opana Er. thst was most of the reason why Endo changed the formula . they knew that if they did not change the formula people could just get the generic for opana without their doc specificly writing for the generic. My doc had no issue at all writing for the generic.
If asked by your doc the reason why you want th generics let them know the brand name oana s upset your stomacj, and also the generics are cheaper.
On top of them not being made with all that plastic BS they just plain work much better.
I am so glad that the FDA allowed the generic to be made . Endo tried so hard to stop them from being made, but thankfully they will be on the market for good.
