Oxycontin Swelling Side Effects

I am prescribed 40 mg oxycontin twice a day for almost a year now. I have noticed severe swelling in my joints, more so in my joints in my hands and feet. Could this be a side effect of the the OC?

I am prescribed 40 mg of oxycontin twice a day for almost a year. I have noticed sever swelling in my joints, more so in my hands and feet. Coult this be a side effect of the OC? Rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus have been ruled out. Please help?

Narcotics have been known to cause this problem in some people. I experienced it back when I was misdiagnosed and put on pain management and was taking Morphine.

I ended up with more joint inflammation and pain than the medication was actually helping.

It is not common, but yes, it can happen with some people, especially if whatever condition they have affects their bones and joints already.

You may wish to speak to your doctor about trying some other medication, such as Oxymorphone or Hydromorphone.
