Has anyone else known oxycontin to rot the teeth? I used to be on vicodin until my doctor told me I needed to switch to a morphine based meds. She put me on ms contin but I had problems with it so she put me on 80mg oxycontin. Eventually my body built up a tolerance so she kept raising it, i have am now on from 4-6 per day of the 80mg tabs. It scares me that this is what rotted my teeth because only 5 yrs ago i had only 2 cavities that needed filling and then only 1 yr after going on the oxycontin i had to have all my top front teeth pulled as they where rotting from the inside out the dentist said my mouth looked like a heroin addict's mouth looks. He said it was shocking to him that normally he only saw such damage from someone who abused drugs with so much dental damage, but i have never done any street drugs and have only take my meds as prescribed to me. Now i have lost 80% of my teeth and as a beautiful 41 yr old mother its devastating. I cant afford dentures and sure cant afford implants like i would like to have. I am a single mother and refuse to date because i have lost my teeth now, i had beautiful teeth before i started on the oxycontin and only 2 small cavities that needed filling. Does anyone else have this same problem and if so why hasn't the company making oxycontin warn patients of this possible problem?

If i had known this would cause me to lose most of my teeth i would have never agreed to go on it. Of course my family doctor who has been prescribing them tells me she hasn't heard of any other cases, yet when i researched the med online there where others like this why hasn't something been put in the warnings about this med, i sure would have preferred to have lived in pain the rest of my life rather than lose my teeth and be unable to even eat now. My health has gone downhill fast as i cant even chew foods necessary for good health. All I can eat now are yogurts, and liquid type of foods which isn't much. My kids are 7 and 9 yrs old and they watch me cry when we go out to eat and they order steak, and i can smell it but can't order one as i know i wont be able to chew it. This is so devastating for me. I want teeth so badly if i could wish for anything in life besides not to be poor anymore it would be to have a full set of real teeth or implants but i could never dream of having them, and i don't know anyone out there willing to just help me get any either. I have always helped others all my life, but cant even help myself, i have had to have 29 surgeries now since 1991 when a drunk driver hit my car and caused me major injuries with my lower back and knees, i have had a full lower back fusion and 8 arthroscopic knee surgeries until a year ago they finally had to do a full right knee replacement and now they are talking about doing my left knee soon.

So my life has been up and down with surgeries and i would go thru one more surgery just to have teeth implanted if i could. but i could never afford it, but i would like to know why these drug manufacturers are making a medication that could cause teeth to rot like this without warning us patients or even warning the doctors about it. This is just terrible of them i think, as now i am the one paying for this by having no teeth to eat with at such a young age now. I am a vibrant young 41 yr old at 5'3, 120lbs, slim woman, nice looking too as i was a model in my younger days, so i keep my looks up. But to have no teeth now... I never smile anymore, I am to ashamed to smile even though it wasn't my fault i lost my teeth. I think they should pay for me to have new teeth but no one wants to admit that the med causes it, but my diet wasn't the problem back when i started the medication and i wasn't drinking coca-cola either or doing street drugs so i know that wasn't the cause either. The only thing that changed within one year to cause this was starting the oxycontin medication. Well, if anyone out there can help me let me know thanks.

To all of you who are in chronic pain form an injury or from a disease my heart goes out to you. I too am facing the same problem as you. I have lost 85% of my teeth and I am currently dealing with a severe abscessed tooth along with another 6 teeth that are cracked or broken and another 7 missing. I was in a MV in 1998 and was hit by a dump truck and my left elbow was blown apart into 25 pieces, after being in the hospital for over a week and having screws, plates and wire put in my elbow to hold everything together I am still in chronic pain. I have had 8 surgery's on my elbow and finally ending up with a total elbow replacement I am still in chronic pain and take Oxycontin, a very high dose. Now my teeth are so embarrassing I don't want to go anywhere or smile or laugh. I am in sales and I have to constantly talk to people and I am embarrassed and humiliated. My dentist said the same thing you people are saying that it's meth mouth, but I have never taken any illegal drugs or substances and only take my medication as directed by my doctor. It is so embarrassing having to explain everything to everybody, then they think you are a junkie. Now I get my medication from Purdue on the Patient Assistance Program because I don't have insurance. I would get behind a class action law suit. I also may know a lawyer who would get on board. He was actually a doctor before he was a lawyer. Good luck to everybody I feel your pain and don't think it is fair that a huge drug company doesn't disclose all side effects of the medication.

Take it to the media tell your story let the public know what corporate drug america has done to your life it is the only way to draw attention to your loss and suffering and hopefully get the attention of an attorney. my ecperience is thhat evetyone thinks that losing your teeth is no big deal but they havebt stood in front of a mirror and looked at a gaping dpace where there once was a mouthful of teeth knowing that a drug company is making billions of dollars off of your loss. Go for it! You have nothing to lose snd eberything to gain posting here is good for the soul but you need to tsje it to the streets. Angela I hope you see this post I know your pain and frustration my beautiful dsughter lost all of her teeth after taking m.s.contin. had she known that this would happen she would have never yaken it too lste now snd we have tried for two years to find an attorney but no one is intetested it seems like the loss of all of your teeth is no big deal I have had so many uncaring rude commrnts made to me by callous lawyers men snd women but I will not give up snd you shouldn't either. try getting a lawsuit going and don't take no for an anseer take your story to the media my dsughters storyv was covered on NBC. we thought maybe a lawyer would see it but it didn't happen but if enough people get the word out stuff will happen. If you want. dental implants get an sttorney intetrdted in your case let them know that the manufacturer is at ftault for your loss. and how you have suffered. Please email me if you are successful. Nobody besides junkies want to take these narcotics but they HAVE TO due to pain. In my case spinal fusions and severe nerve damage. So this is for you "k" karma WILL get you and I hope your back gets smashed into pieces! Scumb Bag!

I also have had major tooth damage from Oxycodone (Percocet) Im 32 and my teeth are just horrible. went to a dentist to get a estimate.. over 6 thousand dollars.. Just crazy what these pills can do to your teeth. I had to stop from fear of loosing all of my teeth. So Now Im in Pain everyday. From A lower Back Operation. I Can understand why people choose to smoke medical cannabis over these pills.

I too have lost teeth and had "black rot" beginning in the rest of them. Before I started taking hydrocodone (vicodin) for post surgical total knee replacement. There MUST be an attorney somewhere who will help us all. Losing your teeth to a drug you must have to even walk is NOT RIGHT. THESE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!! PLEASE...if anyone reading this knows an attorney who will help, or you are one, come to our aid. I simply don't smile anymore...and I had a beautiful smile! :o(

I was thinking of the oxy cotton but like you the doctor said they never heard of this I was hit by a car on my motorcycl so I had pain all over my body I have lost 70 percent of my teeth now your story sounds so like mine .

Yes I have. Do not want discuss too much in public yet.
I too, have contacted several legals who are afraid to go against Pharm companies.
Did I understand that you have found lawyers interested who are willing and able to make a long term commitment? You know this may may take a while?
What is the situation with NBC?
How do I make contact? With you and others privately. I'm certain people are spread out across the country which will make in-person meetings difficult.
I think it is important to keep quiet so manufactures don't get wind of the plan in advance.

Shelley I also wanted to tell you my daughter story Tiffany's Story aired on NBC in jan she wanted the public to know about MS Contin and the side effect DRYMOUTH and the fact that the manufacturer does not warn the public by including the side effect and its consequences in the drug insert.Ana Garcia of Get Garcia covered it slog with chuck Henry she was outraged with what she uncovered that intact the manufacturer has nothing available to the public . It is obvious to me that with that information available who in their right mind would take a drug that would cost them to lose all their teeth and the obvious outcome is that purdue would b out millions of dollars my heart bleeds . Anyway if you can contact Ana at NBC tell her your story and ask her to do a fu story the more media coverage the more hopeful this problem will be in attracting legal help and the justice we all want to see happen pls mail me talk to u later Camille

In a big way justice must prevail if you are interested my beautiful daughter gave her story to NBC in jan to alert the public about MS Contin and tooth rot get Garcia covered it as well as chuck Henry it was sired as Tiffany's Story. Hi Camille, I have been taking MS Cotin for a year now and several months ago started loosing all my teeth! They just started breaking apart and falling out. I have spent $1500.00 as of now and so they tell me about $25,000.00 to go!!! I can't afford it so I don't know what to do.
