Oxycontin And Morphine Combo

I have just been prescribed Oxycontin along with Morphine sulfate immediate release (80 mg of oxy, 1 tab 2x a day, 30 mg of morphine ir) for severe nerve damage to my left leg. I have started to become nauseated, is this due to the combo of both? I take them at separate times a day as prescribed. I have been on msir for 1 1/2 years, but a weaker dose.

It is actually more than likely due to the higher dose of the Morphine. Unfortunately, while also working so well on the pain receptors of the brain, morphine also acts on the receptors that trigger nausea and vomiting.

I went through the same thing myself when I switched from Oxycontin to MS Contin. It will take a few weeks, but it will eventually wear off. However, you can expect to experience this anytime you alter your dosage again.

Agree with Verwon. First thing is to talk with your doctor about it. In the meantime, however, if you really do need to continue the morhpine, you can get some OTC Benadryl, 30mg., and take 1, or 2, each time you take a dose of the Morphine, Be aware though that this also increases the sense of sleepiness and even pain relief from the morphine.
