Oxycontin Tablets 10gm Controlled Release Made In Uk
UpdatedI need to know what the fillers are in the oxycontin Tablets 10 mgm made in the UK and distributed by
Mundipharma P/L Bridge St Sydney.
I have a patient with a dairy allergy and who cannot tolerate Lactose as a tablet filler.

Hi Robert,
It is difficult to answer this question unless you can post the specific manufacturer name. Manufacturing processes differ between each company, and even generic products of the same drug can have different fillers / inactive ingredients. Because of that, the best starting point to knowing the proper answer is to first ascertain who is making the pills in question. Hope this makes sense! Let me know what you think...
The manufacturer of OxyContin (until last year there were no generics; the patent does not officially expire until 2006, 20 years after introduction - Lannacher of Germany make OXYLAN & OXYDOLOR brands but neither are distributed by either Napp or Mundipharma) is Bard Pharmaceuticals of UK. All OC in Europe are manufactured by Bard and are exactly the same tablets no matter where bought or dispensed.
Full list of excipients for all strengths:
Magnesium stearate
Lactose monohydrate
Povidone
Sorbic acid
Glyceryl triacetate
Stearyl alcohol
Talc
Hypromellose (E464)
Titanium dioxide
Macrogol
Hrdropropylcellulose (10 & 80mg only)
Polysorbate 80 (20/40/60/120mg only)
There are no artificial colorings included in the 10mg tablets - the list for all strengths (5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 & 120mg) is quite long as some strengths combine two, and in one case three, different colourings to produce the distinctive colours. The 15/30/60 and 120mg strengths are NOT distributed by Mundipharma but only by Napp. 120mg tablets are not available outwith the United Kingdom, and contrary to received wisdom, the oval/oblong dark blue 160mg tablets have NOT been reintroduced, the highest strength being 120mg.
All tablets are unscored, film coated, round tablets, the 80 and 120mg being some 15% larger than the other strengths, debossed on obverse side with 'OC' and the strength in numerals on the reverse side. This should answer any question about OxyContin tablets as made by Bard Pharma and distributed by Napp and Mundipharma. In the Republic of Ireland, the distribution rights have recently been taken over from Napp by Mundipharma. Hope this helps.
