Oxycontin Reformulation Op (Top voted first)
UpdatedThese pills do not work for pain, the hospitals are not using it for pain control after surgery because people are screaming of no pain relief.
Purdue Pharma did the change out slowly by zip codes so they could handle the complaints they take your info, they say they will pray for you they are sorry they had to do something to control the problem. It was approved under it's old license. Complain to the FDA about any problems associated with these drugs. The real oc's are still world wide because other countries don't allow their citizens to be cheated they make the manufacturer relicense. Canada is the way to go. Walmart Sannich road has a walmart pharmacy that carries the oxycontin in the original formula for 120 eighties it is 500.00 US. Good luck you will need a passport and you will have to see a Canadian Physician. Good Wishes to you all we are working on a website and a lawyer to take names

The problem with trying to get them from Canada is that it is illegal to get them there and bring them into the U.S. if there is already a drug here that is considered equivalent.
Most Canadian doctors are not going to risk seeing someone from the U.S. that is also just wanting them to prescribe narcotic pain medications. They are under strict control, just like doctors in the U.S. and risk their medical license and jail time, if they do so and are found to be prescribing controlled substances for the wrong reasons.
For those having problems with the new Oxycontin formulation, I strongly encourage you to call and report it to both Purdue and the FDA:
Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:
888.726.7535
FDA MedWatch number:
800-332-1088

Franky, the reformulation was all about money. A very concerned fiancé has every reason to be concerned, the silicon OP formulation is awful. Ive been on it the last 6 mths after they changed it here in Australia & it doesnt metabolise properly in a lot of people. Ive got stomach problems & headaches all since being on the new formula before that id been on the OC for a long while & stable on the same dose for 4 yrs, my doctor finally got me to take an increased dose to help my pain. Thankfully we have generic versions of the original OC going to pharmacies this month. The change in formula was all about Purdues patent running out after years of having the market to themselves, by changing the formula it became a new patent. Luckily for Australian patients the government didnt let Purdue push them into banning generic versions of the OC. Doctors & Pharmacies have the choice whether or not to prescribe & stock it. The only real course of action you have would be to change medications or complain to FDA, they are the ones who have control Purdue are just money hungry, & have no interest in the damage this new formula will do to legitimate patients, the junkies just give them a great excuse.
The two reasons hospitals are not using it for pain control after surgery are the same as they have always been: 1) Hospitals don't prescribe medicine. Doctors with hospital privileges do. 2) Oxycontin is not indicated for post surgical pain. The prescribing instractions say so explicitly, and no doctor will ever prescribe it for post-surgical pain to any patient who has not already been takig it on a continuous basis. Even then, any patient taking a substantial amount will be required to slowly detoxify himself to half his usual dosage over the month or two prior to the surgery, and it will not be the most pleasant of experiences.
My fiance has been one of these individuals who has had chronic pain and been on pain meds for at least the last 6 years. He has been controlling his pain with what they have been giving him for the most part but when they switched this new formulation from the Oxy 80mg OC's to the Oxy 80mg OP's, it has severely messed up his system. They are making him so sick and are not helping with the pain. He as well has said something to his doctor as well as I have, and the only answer we have been given is to continue to take this medicine, but take even more of it! WTH!!! I am not about to wake up in the middle of the night or even in the morning to my fiance laying dead to me!!! I think that they need to keep manufacturing the old formulation and these doctors need to prescribe the old formulation to the ones who they know really needs it and won't abuse it and then prescribe the OP's to the ones that they are unsure of or the ones they are pretty sure are the abusers. The purpose of pain medicines is to help take away the pain, but how are they going to come up with a new formulation (which is banned in Mexico and Canada, due to it being a carcinogen, and which in fact wasn't tested on humans. Some studies have shown that it was tested on rats, however, the rats sustained liver damage from this testing). What do they think is going to happen to humans after using this formulation for a little while? They are too worried about the lawsuits they were getting over the OC's and people dying from abusing the drug, how many lawsuits do they think they will get when this new formulation kills even more people??? I for one am very worried about my fiance and what this formulation is doing to him, and I for one think we all need to stand up and tell Purdue to fix this issue!!!!
@a very concerned fiancee- and mainly tell the government, they made purdue change the formula!
My biggest concern with these (besides the fact that half the milligrams in IR formula work better) is for people who might get pharmaceutical bezoars from gastroparesis, which can come from opiate medication. Search on google images & it really makes you wonder how many accidental overdoses are from one of these stones breaking up. Coke (the beverage) can help them dissolve. Kind of terrifying.
