Oxycontin = Oxycodone (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedConsider this!
With the change related to Oxycontin my problem is the OP type of Medication just doesn't work!
So... My doctor has added additonal 30mg Oxycodone's to my monthly medication list. The problem we are having is coming up with a near equal dosage. Depending upon which phamacist you talk to we are getting differnet answers.
It doesn't matter howe many tablets you are prescribed the research is done by considering one 80mg Oxycodone and trying to come up wit hthe equal dosage using 30mg Oxycodone.
Opinion's
- One 80mg Oxycontin is supposed to last 12 hours giving 80 mg of oxycodone for the ful 12 hours, so if that is true then there has to be 960mg. of Oxycodone in each 80 mg Oxycontin.
30mg of Oxycodone tablets are prescribed for 3 - 4 hours.
So it would take "about" 2 1/2 30mg tablets taken every 3 or 4 hours (75mg) to be close to one 80mg Oxycontin Tablet. It appears that it will take a total of 10 - 12 30 mg tablets to be close to dosage for a 12 hour period of time.
or another way to look at it.
If the total mg per 12 hour period of time is 960mg then the near equal would be 32 - 30mg Oxycodone Tablets!!!
30mg x 32 tablets = 960mg...!
Screwy no matter how you look at it!
If you look at the medication release charts provided at perdue's website related to 80 mg Oxycontin the release is shown at 12 hours and 24 hours...and it in itself is confusing.
They show 80 mg tablets given every 12 hours as providing at least 80 mg of Oxycodone sustained release each hour.
So it's either 32 tablets for a 24 hour period of time or 32 tablets for a 12 hour period of time...either way it looks like a lot of tablets.
Either - 960 tablets per month using 24 hours
or 1920 tablets using 12 hours
When we get to this point all the phamacists throw their hands up in the air and surrender..and then they refer the patient back to the doctor for conversation who then refers the patient back to a phamacist!
Ad this to the normal dosage given for breakthough pain and we start talking about alot of tablets..
What are we to do? Check my math!!! Please reply
When a 12 hr sustained release tablet/cap says it's 80mg then that is all you're going to get over the 12 hr period, which means you divide the 80mg by 12 hrs....6.6mg per hour. But debating the accuracy of the 'sustained release' process i doubt that each hour one would receive the same dose (if only!). From my experience SR Oxycontin was only really good for 3-4 hrs before i was wishing it was time for the next dose. Different results for different biologies. And even solely for marketing and advertising purposes, if you were getting 960mg of oxycodone in a 80mg SR Oxycontin tablet, they would be letting you know! Nevermind the legal repurcussions for not letting you know that you're deceased husband who had just chewed up a SR tablet, had actully consumed nearly a thousand milligrams of the dreaded stuff instead of the 80mg it said it contained on the packet.
I've been on some meds since 1986. I've been in a plane crash and five car wrecks. I'm pretty banged up. The Oxycodone and Oxycontin was on the 80 mill., but the Opana 40 milligram is better than the Oxycontin now. I will say that the Opana is very very good and I do take that along with the Oxycodone 30 milligrams. If you can, try not take it because when you get old like me s*** nothing seems to help. Back in the day Tylox / Percodan used to be the pill of choice.
You have to go back to the doctor everytime you are hurting. You have to show them a need for daily meds. They will then refer you to a pain specialist
Get off your high horse , there are people actually in pain. And YOU or anyone else is not allowed to judge a person without being in their shoes. So please, the high horse...you're breaking its back.
You are correct. I spoke with Perdue Pharma today and was corrected. It appears there is 80mg in a 80 mg ER tablet.. In fact I was told the use of the ER tablet is for convience of not having to take multiple tablets all the time..However on top of the 80 mg tablets I take I amn takimng mulitble IR tablets and it was suggested I simply take more of those rather then even take the 80mg ER type. The cost is a lot less as well.
I stand corrected..thank you
Biologist? chemist? You may still need to go back to school because your spelling is really bad.
my pain Dr has me on 240 80 milligram oxycotton and 240 30 milligram oxycodone
Try this
OF COURSE THE PHARMACIST THRU UP THEIR HANDS CUZ THEY WERE LOOKING AT A SOMEONE WHO WAS TRYING SEEKING DRUGS!
