Oxycontin 60 Mg & Oxycodone 30mg

I have been on regular Oxycodone- one 20mg pill every 4-6 hrs a day for approx 6 mos I used to be prescribed 10 MG TWO PILLS every 4-6hrs prior to the switch by my doc. Now, my pain has greatly increased and NOW he has given me 30 mg 4x a day and another script for oxycontin 60mg 2x a day. NOW, I am really drowsy ALL DAY where I was not at all before after this recent change in script. I also DO NOT get the same pain relief. Seems weird----go up in strength and dosage yet now just very tired all the time and less pain effective too..WHY, WHY?. I have read somewhere that the brand of oxycodone I take (KVK) ESPECIALLY the former 20mg was almost worthless for pain, yet their 10 mg was very effective. When ever I would take 2 of the KVK 10mg in past, it INDEED WAS MORE EFFECTIVE than just ONE KVK 20 mg of oxycodone. WHY? Why would that be?? I hate taking these pills. I want to point out I do not feel any "high" nor "buzz" as I have read about off of any of these pills, just for "plain pain" purposes. I have no doubt that if I could take three of the old KVK 10mg he used to give me would be more effective than one KVK 30mg pill. Are drug mfgs playing games with these meds that are a higher strength or what?? Is the drowsiness I get from just the oxycontin?? I was never drowsy like this before, but I was never taking the oxycontin either along with the oxycodone. I cannot figure this out...anyone have any answers?? Would appreciate any help asap.....thanks.

Both of the medications you mentioned are the same, Oxycontin contains Oxycodone, it's just in a time released formulation. This means that they both can cause drowsiness, as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and headache, so your issue with being drowsy is most likely just due to the dosage increase.

Not all medications work for everyone that tries them, it could be that Oxycodone isn't the best choice to alleviate your pain.
