My mother has just been put on morphine 15mg 2x a day. She has breakthrough pain after 6-8 hrs. She had been taking 60mgs of oxycontin a day. Can they increase the morphine to 3x a day?

Yes, but whether or not they do so is up to her doctor. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
Is she on any other medications? What condition is being treated?
