Oxycodone Or Opana For Chronic Back Pain (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am currently on 4 30mg oxycodone ir a day and 2 2mg dillaudid a day and the oxycodone only last 2 hours and the dilaudid doesn't work at all.I've had 2 major surgeries and I'm I'm only 24 and day in day out in extreme constant pain. My question is would switching to OxyContin the new formula be as effective or would swithing to opana be better? Does it have a good euphoria to it Does it have the same euphoria or is it less effective than what I'm on? If anybody can help me out with that I would appreciate it.

The euphoria that some people experience from these types of medications is purely a temporary side effect and has no bearing on whether or not they are working. It will always wear off as your body gets used to the current dosage and you'd have to keep taking more and more to get it back. That's what leads to drug abuse and addiction, actually.
Now, as to the pain, if the Oxycodone IR is working for you, then you may benefit from the time released formulation, since it will keep working longer.

The Opana is also pretty strong and there is a time released formulation of it available now.

It really seems that's what's missing here, something time released for give longer pain control.
However, I strongly urge you to stop considering the euphoria, since that is not a safe road to travel.
Are there any other questions or comments?
What mg of OxyContin in your opinion should I take if I'm on 120mg or all together. Been struggling with it for a while now. Not concerned with the euphoria stuff because honestly I'm in too much pain I don't have time to chase it I just need to be pain free for longer periods of time. What do you think?
I'm not sure what you mean exactly but I'd sure like to know where you go to the Dr cuz Oi can't find anyone and I've been in pain for over twenty yrs. Please let me know, THANKS if you will.
Re: Johnny (# 2)
Have you thought of changing to Suboxone, since your other opiates don't work? They have been using Suboxone in other countries for years, so it isn't a new drug. The conversion is 1mg sub = 15mg of Morphine, which basically Opana is. I suffer from chronic pain, and Suboxone has worked way better than 240 mg of Oxy a day with 5mg Percoset for breakthrough pain. I was so scared to change to the Suboxone, but it works so well, at times I forget to take it.
Re: Kelly (# 4)
I believe Opana ER has been politically pulled off the market due to the drugheads found a way to cut through the tough outer coating and abuse so once again they take ot out on us...people who truly need these types of meds. It is shameful what is going on with the feds, the media, etc. I had it out with my last Pain Mgt doctor as he was purposely trying to humiliate me in front of a group of Pain Mgt students from a local college, y3s he did this on purpose. I told him in front of his students he should hqve his license revoked and he must have mandatory psychiatric visits with a professional in that field. He mistreats terribly his own staff...he insults them in front of anyone around. They cant stand the guy and all are looking for better jobs in the medical field. I know for a fact his practice has suffered for lack of patients and we all know why. He is even advertising heavily, yet I believe word of mouth has done him in.I want to file a report at the hospital that employs him. I am not a vindictive man, yet he NEVER showed any respect and was always insulting me for NO REASON AT ALL. His nurses are always apologizing for his behavior.
