Oxycodone False Test

I have been taking lortab 5/500 for about 2 years. I always do a drug test when I go in and have never had a problem. today I saw a different dr. and he said I tested positive for Oxy. He accused me of getting drugs somewhere else and was a complete jerk. I've never taken Oxy, had some ibuprofen over the weekend, but just the lortab 2 pills a day. Could that test as Oxy?

The Hydrocodone found in Lortab is in-fact known to cause false positives for Oxycodone.

If need be, I would suggest showing that webpage to this doctor to help prove your case. Regardless of his reaction, he does seem to be very uneducated about the possibility of false-positives, so it may even be a good idea to present this to one of his colleagues if you really want to put him on the spot.

Both hydrocodone and oxycodone are synthetic opiates, so it makes good sense to me that a cheap drug test wouldn't be able to distinguish any differences beyond the basic structures of the drug class vs drug name.

Another way to dispute your case is to get re-tested with a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer. This method has the ability to distinguish the exact substance in question, but is not initially performed because of cost. However, it is often a follow-up option for those facing serious consequences such as a job loss or jail time. I think companies who don't use this method right off the bat are just too scared to spend a little extra money for the right results.
