Oxycodone And Prior Authorization

My docs office sent in my prescription for 10 oxycodone. Walmart says they are waiting for prior authorization. From my insurance? What if that is not given? Would the pharmacy allow me to pay out of pocket? Or is that considered addict behaviour? This is not a med I'm trying to fill early.

Yes, you should be given that option, as long as you aren't trying to get it early, which you have already stated you are not doing. My husband was recently out of a medication, and they said our insurance said it wasn't time for a fill, yet, but we were welcome to purchase as much as he needed, out of pocket, to make sure he didn't run out, until they authorized it.

Unfortunately, sometimes, insurance companies can be very strict about prior authorization, and not take into account that you may drop a pill and lose it, or perhaps you got sick and had to take an extra one, because the other one you took ended up in the toilet..... I know they are trying to curb abuse, and control unnecessary spending, but there are times they seem to go too far.

Although, I do have to say I think our most epic experience was going in to get his Epi pens, which he needs to save his life in case of emergency, because he is deathly allergic to bees, and they told us it required prior authorization...... so.... in the meantime, if my husband was stung, he could just die, because they didn't believe the doctor that he needed them? Even though he had been rushed to the ER, before, due to his reaction to a sting? Okay, enough of my rant, I'm sure you get it. Things have gotten ridiculous. Anyway, to sum it up, since his old pens expired a few years ago, we ended up paying over $400 for him to get his new ones, and not have to wait for our insurance to make a decision.

The FDA warns that Oxycodone carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as dizziness, headache, dry mouth, nausea, and drowsiness.

It depends on your insurance. If you have medicaid or government funded insurance paying out of pocket would be considered fraud.
