Oxycodone And Morphine Sulfate

1. I now take15 mg morphine sulfate TID which makes me sleepy and does not handle my pain, plus up to 10/325 oxycodone 4xday to handle pain. (orig. on 30 mg morphine sulfate + oxy, and reduced at my request due to sleepiness)
2. 10/325 mg oxycodone taken alone 4xday is effective 80 or so % of the time in treating my pain, and does not cause sleepiness.

Why the difference? My pain mgmnt physician wants me to rely more on the morphine sulfate.

While they are both narcotics, their base chemical structure is different and may affect any given person differently. I had the same problem with Morphine, I could barely ever stay awake, while taking it, however, Oxycodone makes me a bit drowsy, but works much better for me.

The FDA warns that narcotic pain medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

There are other time released medications you can try. Is Morphine the only option your doctor has provided?
