Hi Long Island! I am writing because I am in need of a new doctor who can prescribe oxycodone. I am disabled to to an exacerbated injury from 9/11. I have had over a dozen procedures, multiple surgeries, and am now considered a chronic pain patient with failed back surgery syndrome. The doctor I see (regular MD) has told me to find a pain management doctor to continue meds and I haven't been able to find one and I am out of meds. I contacted office but to no avail. I have tried many places left waiting for callbacks with letdowns saying my case is too old, no new patients...etc. I have an active case, and very recent mri and xrays. I have tried everything I can think of and don't know what else to do. I even have bloodwork back every three months for a year and perfect monthly U/A's. I am living in Suffolk County Long Island and if anyone can help I am willing to travel. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks for listening.
Hello, Georgia! How are you?
Unfortunately, there is no database of doctors that will prescribe any given medication.
And if you require such a medication on a long-term basis for chronic pain, due to the new regulations that were put in place this year, you'll most likely need to see a pain management specialist. PCPs and surgeons have been severely restricted as to what they can prescribe, how much they can prescribe and how long they can prescribe it.

And when looking for a new doctor, the worse thing you can do is ask them ahead of time about prescribing any specific medication, especially a controlled substance. If you do, they usually won't even let you in the door for an initial appointment, because they view that as being drug seeking behavior.
Do you have a PCP that may be able to refer you to someone?
