Re: Kyboy (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

How nice... those clinics won't be around long unless the guidelines (not laws as the doctors tell everyone. This is what caused the Opioid Crisis... people coming from out of state to Florida to get their meds from drs at pain clinics who would write scripts 'for just about anything'. Been a chronic pain patient for over two decades. Started seeing a new doctor about 5 years ago... was getting what I needed, then suddenly cut off everything but my valiums, and given script for Tylenol with Codeine, which barely takes the edge off. Migraine...forget it! I have RSD, HERNIATED AND COMPRESSED DISCS 3 KINDS OF ARTHRITIS, SCIATICA, BOTH SIDES, MIGRAINES. ALL IS DOCUMENTED.
I am my 86-yr-old Mom's with Dementia caregiver, but the pain is keeping me from caring for her more and more, where soon am going to have to place her in a home. I hate this... as her caregiver, I can barely do it, and only getting worse with her progression into this terrible disease. Yet without my pain meds, it is forcing me to make the choice because I just can't do it any longer with the level of pain I am in. It's ridiculous and uncalled for. Wht are legit pain patients being treated like recreational addicts??!!

I'm up your ass cause you have no business telling people there addicts. This forum isn't for voicing your stupid opinion. I don't have to rewrite everything you've said on here you know what you wrote just to TRY and sound smart. As for my past post I don't need any help from a close minded individual! Everyone going to any dr. starting out has to start you out on the lowest dose so they don't get in trouble. It's call protocol! that was last yr, obviously they put me on stronger meds cause they have found more stuff to add to my neuropathy like hummm? What caused it is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy (yes even u) so lets quit with the whole (I'm in more pain than u crap!) You still haven't grasp what I'm trying to get across to you. You can't just run your mouth and think your better than everyone cause of your problems and not get called out on it. if u can't handle criticism don't dish it out.

@joe what were u on before? If they try to put u on something you have been prescribed before that didn't work tell them that and what side effects it gave u. I think by law they have to start u on a non-narcotic to save there ass but it seems with your injures u shouldn't have a prob. Good luck!

I commend you for getting your drug problem under control. I believe, though, that your pain problem was not severe that you couldn't even take a couple of steps without collapsing on the floor from the excruciating pain. There are those of us whose lives have been saved by doctors who are not afraid to adequately treat pain. It is very obvious that you were indeed an addict, as you mention running out early, the planning, lying, etc. This is the behavior of an addict. I have been on the same dose of the same meds for over ten years. I haven't gotten a "high" from them for many years, but do get adequate relief for my pain - pain for which there is a well-documented need and for which all other treatments have failed. I would love to not need these meds. I would give anything to have a tolerable level of pain. But I don't and I resorted to meds as a last resort. And it did save my life, just as your life was saved when you dealt with your abuse of prescription pain meds. Those of us who have a legitimate need for these medications are not weak, nor are we unable to deal with "a few aches and pains". What I wouldn't give for just a few aches and pains. Those of us on here looking for help are dealing with the kind of pain that would cause you to pass out. If you want to know, take a crow bar and jab it into your lower spine and start prying your vertabrae apart. AND DON'T STOP. Do that for a few years and then you may have some idea of what a true chronic pain patient is going through.

Again, congrats on having the strength to kick your habit. I'm sure it was very difficult. In August when I go see my new doctor, I will find out if I will have to go through the same thing and then deal with my pain on top of that thanks to the legislators and governor in Kentucky.

Also to the people who asked about Atlanta docs and are not from Georgia, this is no longer a safe haven for you. The dea has busted many docs this year and I live here and couldn't get my meds filled to save my life forever because of the out of state folks who flooded here. Of course it has been so cheap for dealers here up until this year abuse has run rampant in this state because all the Florida folks started coming here when Florida was cracked down on. Your states may suck but you will wind up eating your money here as most places won't even fill for you even if you have a history with them. Just an FYI.

I'm so sick of hearing KY people ruined pain management for Florida and every single state in the United States! KY just like all you other states has had same problem with people from Florida coming here to get pain management as well as Michigan coming here and people from many other states long before it was put in headlines. KY police & DEA are the ones that put a stop to it not Florida or any other state for that matter until recently and now it's all KY's fault! Bull! No not everyone going was dopeheads either! When more and more came here, Ky pain management was no more with facility after facility shut down and no place to go! I can name 3 doctors that was from Florida that came here opened pain clinics had patients going there and Florida. Then 2 busted from Michigan 5 months ago and what do these out of state doctors tell the patients ? I will be transferring back to Michigan, Florida , etc. so you can pick treatment up there! So you need look at your own before playing blame game! Nobody can receive pain management in KY anymore why didn't those people stay in their own states? As far as the people that run to doctors that do not need pain management that is in every state and I hope they put them below the jail for what they have done to patients that do need it!!

I can tell u exactly what they did!!! They went to the E.R. and got a shot of Morphine and that is quite possibly what caused the pill mills, you old farts went and got all the morphine cut off because of the major demand by you all and now we that do have chronic pain have to go to what u call a pill mill because there are no doctors, thanks to u, that will write chronic pain meds for people in pain because u old fart had to go and get the gov. involved!! Maybe there wouldn't be pill mills if it were'nt for you, I would have to think that a Dr. should be able to tell if someone is truly in pain or not but the doctors are afraid to write meds due to all u old and young farts complaining about pill mills!!!!

ATTENTION:

Anyone being prescribed oxycodone 30mg or 15mg should be warned! Clinically, these medications are supposed to be prescribed for post-operative pain only. These huge doses of short acting opioids will slowly make you an addict and will eventually stop working. Once those stop working...what will you take? THERE IS A REASON THESE OXYCODONE CLINICS ARE BEING SHUT DOWN. Because they are WRONG.

Be wary of the pain clinics that have tons of out-of-state license plates and people going through withdrawals in their waiting rooms...these doctors are nothing but DRUG DEALERS and DO NOT care about you.

Don't let yourself become a drug addict...before you know it these medications will be controlling your mind and your life. What will you do when it become a CRIMINAL crime to prescribe these medications excessively?? Think about it...soon, no one will fill these medications..

IT'S BEEN ADVISED TO NOT TRY TO GO TO DR. GUERRERO IN LOUISVILLE OR INDIANA OFFICE BY AN EMPLOYEE OF DR.G. WAS TOLD ANOTHER INVESTIGATION IS SUPPOSEDLY GOING ON NOW, UNBEKNOWNST TO THE PUBLIC, BUT SOURCE CAME FROM SOMEONE WHO WORKS THERE AND HAS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. SOMETIMES THE OFFICES KNOW SEVERAL WEEKS AHEAD THAT THEY ARE BEING INVESTIGATED WHEN THE DEA COMES IN AND PULLS CHARTS TO REVIEW OF PATIENTS. THIS WILL BE SECOND TIME BEING INVESTIGATED IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I WAS ALSO TOLD PARKING LOT/GARAGE TO LOUISVILLE OFFICE HAS ALSO SUPPOSEDLY BEEN BEING WATCHE, AND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME PEOPLE ARRESTED/OR PICKED UP, TAKEN TO A LOCATION WHERE BEING QUESTIONED, LEAVING HIS OFFICE. BEEN TOLD INDIANA OFFICE BEING WATCHED ALSO. IMO, I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THERE. IT DID USED TO BE A GOOD OFFICE TO GO TO SEVERAL YEARS BACK. HE DOESN'T TAKE CASH PATIENTS UNLESS THEY WERE GOING TO HIM WITH INSURANCE AND LOST INSURANCE WHILE ALREADY PATIENT. RUNS URINE SCREENS THAT COST AROUND $1100.00. APPARENTLY, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD (I'D SAY AN EMPLOYEE WOULD DEFINITELY BE A RELIABLE SOURCE, I THINK ANYWAY). IT MAY BE THAT PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THE AMOUNT OF PATIENTS SEEN PER DAY. A DR. HAS TO SPEND A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FACE TO FACE TIME WITH A PATIENT TO BE ABLE TO BILL INSURANCE COMPANIES... DEPENDING ON AMOUNT OF TIME SPENT WITH PATIENTS FACE TO FACE IS WHAT DETERMINES LEVEL OF OFFICE VISIT TO BE CHARGED. AND, PATIENTS WAIT A WHILE, BUT ONCE SEEN, ONLY SEEN FOR COUPLE OF MINUTES... MAYBE 5MINS. WHICH IS NOT EVEN ENOUGH TIME ACCORDING TO AMA GUIDELINES TO BILL EVEN THE LOWEST LEVEL OFFICE VISIT. AGAIN, THIS IS JUST INFO I WAS TOLD FROM AN EMPLOYEE (FRIEND) ALSO.

EVERY CHRONIC PAIN PATIENT NEEDS TO GET TOGETHER SOMEHOW, AND WRITE YOUR SENATOR, CONGRESS...WHOEVER, AND SEE HOW PEOPLE WHO DID NOT ATTEND MEDICAL SCHOOL FOR ALL THE YEARS THAT OUR DOCTORS DID, CAN DECIDE WHAT IS APPROPRIATE TREATMENT FOR EACH PATIENT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO PROTECT EACH PATIENT AND LET THEM HAVE WHATEVER TREATMENT THEIR DOCTOR (WHO SPECIALIZES IN PAIN MANAGEMENT) DECIDE WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THEM, AND NOT SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOW A PATIENT SHOULD BE TREATED.

IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT. WHAT ABOUT PATIENT RIGHTS? AND THE HIPPA PRIVACY ACT? IT SEEMS THAT WHEN THEY GO INTO AN OFFICE AND PULL RANDOM CHARTS TO VIEW, THAT PATIENT'S PRIVACY IS BEING VIOLATED RIGHT THEN AND THERE!

@Connie, that was the rudest and most disrespectful remark anyone could mAke and you should be ashamed of yourself
@Jennifer the only thing Connie said that you should pay any attention to is that your oncologist will take care of writing you scripts for pain, if they aren't then you need to find a new oncologist. BTW, to hopefully take the sting out of Connie's rude a$$ statement I have had 3 family members and friends that have had kidney cancer, all are ALIVE and well, one had to have her kidney removed but she's fine, the other two were treated and are cancer free. Take care of yourself and God bless you

Kentucky is keeping the pain doctors that do only the allowed amount. They require tests and visits that a healthy person doesn't feel like going through. Getting disability was easier than this. The doctors that can stay in business treat you like you're dirt. The legislature said it is never their plan to lose doctors, keep legitimate patients from getting treatment or having patients go through withdrawals. Well, that is what is happening. I've checked the surrounding states and they are all doing the same thing. I'm in pain and I'm stumped. I don't want to be an invalid but at the beginning of the year all the pain meds doctors will be worthless. When a patient has had everything done and medication is the only thing that helps, this is outrageous. Meanwhile, we have people making meth in a culvert. They were recently caught but there are others. Go after them and leave our pain doctors alone.

Ladyann, I do not know who you talked to in other states. But they gave you the wrong
info. I have found help in surrounding states. I know it is difficult to do in withdrawal but well worth it. I posted a earlier comment how to go about it.

I have been saying that the TRUE chronic, pain pts. need to get together and go to KY state capital. The dummies think the kasper law is working. They are looking at the drop in prescribed scheduled 2 drugs & hydrocodone filled. Which is lower only because of people like us are suffering.

OK if for some reason my thread seems to not make sense it is because anytime I use my aol for email or thread feeds it sometimes decides to disagree with my actual logic. Im looking for any kid of review of the Spine Institute in Danville, KY. With referral I can say they got me scheduled pretty quick, I spoke with them Friday and my first appt is Dec. 9th, she said had it not been for the holiday it would have been faster and I was also honest and told her the PM on Pasadena in Lexington had me covered until at least the 9th. I am transferring for 2 reasons, all of my specialists are in Lex but I moved to Lebanon which is much closer to Danville. Also in my experience with the Pasadena clinic I was just a number and jumped through hoops to hurry up and wait for my intake appt then the doctor which happened to be a nurse. I have all of my records, well over 20 MRIs in the past 3 years a recent spinal fusion in my neck in January and recent testing showing that 2 of the vertabraes did not fuse and are in bad shape and the ortho is pushing for a more extensive surgery through the back of the neck to fix the problem with a medically induced coma to follow the surgery for 5 to 7 days. I am NOT ready for that. The pasadena clinic instantly cut my meds in half and added fentanyl patches which I had never tried and my skin is having a bad allergic reaction to, I showed this to the nurse and said I do not want to take a med that not only has no help but I have a reaction to and she still prescribed them anyway, even after me showing her my skin where I had the patch. Again, just a number. This place in Danville sounds very legit and I meet with a DOCTOR not a nurse and they also have an Orthopedic Surgeon on staff as well which somehow made me feel even more comfortable. I am just looking for anyones experience with them directly. I am NOT A number I am a patient with numerous diagnoses' and legitimate pain. I even had a top neurosurgeon in Lex tell me he hated to sound cynical but with the new laws too many people are turning to H for a cheap relief and he said it was at least cutting out part of the problem.. Really?? He included the chronic pain patients turning to other dangerous and illegal means for relief. How is that fixing the problem, people are DYING because noone will help them anymore and you consider it helping the problem?? I never went back to him after that. I am hoping this change is for the better and at least each time I have called I have spoken to a human instead of a machine like every call to Pasadena clinic. Any feedback would be great!

I'm a doctor and I live with chronic, significant pain. As you can imagine I have a different perspective on the true chronic pain "person". Having had some time under my belt PLUS also having a decade of chronic pain gives me a little better understanding, I think. In very general terms, I believe that there are very few things that require use of long term narcotics. This is what I think and it's colored by both being a patient and the things I've learned by both teaching and learning. For long term the pain should be daily, non-relapsing pain. The patient should sign a contract that allows for 1) Only one pharmacy, one doctor for all controlled meds
2) all pills should be counted on different days, once each month, for the first six months
3) after the first six months, discretion is given to whether a "medication holiday" is needed. A patient who is truly worried about only long term pain should support this idea. If those three are not squeaky clean it would establish a "warning sign" but cannot be used to document a "refusal sign" if alone.
1) patient fails a drug screen.
2) patient needs early scripts.
3) patient does not pass pill count.
There are two documented "warning signs" before a "Refusal sign".

This is what I hold myself and my patients to and it is my belief that it fulfills the "hippocratic oath" in medical school, to the fullest intent.
I would be happy to answer any questions, but will do so in this forum when I get my break. I have a real passion and compassion for the chronic pain patient. Luckily, I don't see things entirely on a patients view, which I think helps. Chronic pain can be life consuming if its given the opportunity.

To Over it - you got it. The law makers know it was a bad move but the KY medical board stands behind it because "too many people were overdosing on pain pills". I never heard of any. I do know that they are making meth like crazy but who is worried about that. It's easier to focus on legitimate doctors and patients with legitimate pain. Little bitterness here about the KY medical board. Doctor knows I need the meds; insurance doesn't care; pharmacist doesn't care but the medical board think they know my needs best.
