Oxycodone 10mg Vs Percocet 10/325mg (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've been on oxycodone 10mg for several years. My pain management doc has been reducing my prescription by 5 pills each month to get me down to just 120 per month. Next month I will be at the 120 mark. I've been complaining as that 1 less per day makes a difference in managing my pain daily. A few months ago my pharmacy switched their supplier and the new pills won't cut. They literally shatter on one side leaving me about 3/4 of a pill & crumbs. So now my doctor is suggesting I go on Percocet 10/325mg. I know the 325 is acetaminophen. But what is the difference between Oxy & Percocet? I'm not a fan of taking that much acetaminophen daily without an end in sight. Is the Percocet 10/325mg is stronger than Oxy 10mg? The same? Unless it's stronger, I don't know if (possibly) getting a pill that will cut nicely is worth taking in acetaminophen for an unknown period of time.

For some people, the Acetaminophen can augment that action of opiates, so they work better for them and provide more pain relief.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
While there is a risk of experiencing liver failure or liver damage from long-term use of high amounts of Acetaminophen, there shouldn't be much to worry about, as long as your doctor is monitoring you regularly. The best thing to do would be to make sure that they are running a liver panel every 3 months, or so.
Are you on any other medications?
In addition to the oxycodone 10mg, I am taking: Gabapentin 600mg, Baclofen 10mg, Ibuprofen 800mg(don't take daily), Estradiol 1mg and Progesterone 100mg.
The 800mg is the one you need to be concerned about as far as liver and kidney damage. I used to take 800mg of Ibuprofen probably 3-4 times a day until it almost caused my kidneys to fail. My dr said no more Ibuprofen, alieve or any of those. They will affect your liver and kidneys. He says the Tylenol is ok tho..but I even avoid it as well. Straight oxycodone, no buffers. I've been on em for at least 20years and I'm still kicking. They are definitely habit forming. My tolerance has gone up and down over the years. You have to stay on top of it and not let your mind trick you into thinking you need more when you don't. Been there done that. God bless!
