Oxycontin 40 Mg Is Equivlant To What Hydromorphin Strength?

Currently taking 40 mg OxyContin sr but they are back ordered for months. Dr suggested hydromorphin but I'd like to be sure I get the equivlant dose to the OxyContin. What is the comparable strength?

Hello, Tracey and Brooke! How are you both?

You're actually taking about different medications here, so I'd like to clear this up to avoid confusing anyone.

Regarding the Hydromorphone for you, Tracey, you need 3.75mgs of it for each 10mgs you were taking of the Oxycodone, so you'd need 15mgs of the Hydromorphone for each 40mg Oxycontin.

Brooke, Opana actually contains Oxymorphone and you'd need 5mgs of it for each 10mgs you were taking of Oxycodone, so yes, for you 30mgs of it is the correct dose.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Dilaudid is ALWAYS better than Oxy.

Ewww not for me-- I can take 32mg and get nothing, not even pain relief and I feel quite odd and out of it. Give me oxy any day instead of dilaudid-PLUS after a year of 24mgs a day it ruined my tolerance for oxy.
