Otezla And Food Aversions

Looking for answers, I have been on Otezla for 5 months with wonderful results. Had Plaques on 15% of my body and now down to 1%. But I have had significant weight loss, and difficulty eating. Nothing sounds good and if I try to force myself to eat, I start gagging and get the feeling I'm going to vomit. The weight loss was welcomed, but now starting to worry as it has not slowed down, and the difficulty eating has been increasing. Anyone out there with the same experiences?

Hello Tina,

According to the NIH Otezla is known to cause all of the symptoms you are experiencing. Below is a list of the most common side effects of Otezla sourced from the NIH.

Common Side Effects:

Immune system disorders: Hypersensitivity
Investigations: Weight decrease
Gastrointestinal Disorders: Frequent bowel movement, gastroesophageal reflux disease, dyspepsia
Metabolism and Nutrition Disorders: Decreased appetite*
Nervous System Disorders: Migraine
Respiratory, Thoracic, and Mediastinal Disorders: Cough
Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue Disorders: Rash

I'm glad to hear that you have had such success with the plaques but since your symptoms have continued to worsen I would suggest that you discuss this matter with your primary care physician to ensure that it is safe for you to continue administering this drug.

I hope this information helps.
