Would you consider a 20mg dose of Oramorph (a first dose) to be excessive, in a 93 year old person with a history of many medical problems, including COPD? The person had never been given it before, and was given 90mg in 9 hours, when it was then necessary to administer Naxolone. It was given for stomach pain. What could be the possible outcome of this dose?

Yes its excessive 2.5mg more usual and even then used in caution with elderly esp with copd. Naloxene given to remove morphine from system almost instantly so its simple conclusion. I'm a ex nurse currently on large doses of morphine and have been given naloxene following of so consider myself fairly informed
