Hello, Dinky! How are you? I'm sorry about the infection, those can be really painful!
This is not a pain reliever, it is an antibiotic, so no, that won't do anything. You need to swallow the capsules, as directed. Side effects to this medication may include dizziness, drowsiness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
To know if they're working, the general rule with antibiotics is that you shouldn't see any worsening of your condition, after taking them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days.
If you need something for the pain, you should contact your doctor so they can tell you what would be appropriate for you to take.
