Opana (hydromorphone) 5 Mg

I have been taking Ultram 50 mg 2 tabs 4 times/day + Lyrica 150 mg twice/day for years for not only almost every vertebrae in my neck & back being herniated with impinged nerves, spinal stenosis, degenerative spine disease & scoliosis, but also severe fibromyalgia & osteoarthritis (mostly in the knees & ankles. I had a spinal cord implant last year, but even though it does help, it just doesn't do the entire trick for me. My doctor tried switching the Lyrica for Cymbalta, but I developed Serotonin Syndrome & didn't sleep the entire week I was on it. Due to lack of sleep, I developed a gigantic migraine headache & took Fiorecet & Benadryl, thinking it was due to sinus problems. Needless to say, that only made the Serotonin Syndrome worse & I ended up in the hospital because of it. I thought I was literally going to die.

The following week my doctor switched my back to Lyrica 150 mg twice/day, then increased it to 200 mg twice/day. This has caused neglible pain relief over the previous dose. I have been putting up a fight against taking narcotics for the 25 years I have been in pain & have tried everything else but narcotics. I am finally ready to bite the bullet & so my doctor prescribed Opana 5 mg 1-2 4 times/day + Opana ER 5 mg 1-2 at bedtime only. I will be titration get off the Lyrica over the next 4 weeks & off the Ultram over the next 12 days. So initially I will be taking all 3. The doctor has said he thinks this might also help with my migraines, but hasn't said I can't take Fiorecet if I absolutely need to (I try Tylenol first & know to limit the amount of Tylenol I ingest in one 24 hour period). I am unable to take aspirin or any NSAIDs headache pain relievers (like Excedrin Migraine) because they make me deathly sick to my stomach. I still need to take the Benadryl for my allergies, as I'm allergic to all other antihistamines. We have even had to limit my nasal sprays to Flonase & Astelin only due to allergies to the other antihistamines. My questions are: will the regimen of Opana 5 mg & Opana ER 5 mg control my pain better than the lack of pain relief I have experienced so far? & Will I once again be courting Serotonin Syndrome if I combine migraine & allergy medications at the same time with the Opana?

It is, of course, always best to double check this information, but from what I've found, no there shouldn't be any problems with Serotonin syndrome going by the medications you've listed. However, you may experience more drowsiness, dizziness and sedation than usual, as listed by the FDA.

Additionally, if you're still taking the Ultram, when you start the Opana, the Ultram may prevent it from working as well for you, so you may not get the full effects of the Opana, until you have fully stopped the Tramadol.
