On Methadone Clinic But Would Like To Use A Private Dr (Top voted first)
UpdatedHello, I've been on methadone for 6 yrs.. Using a clinic in town. I pay close to 500$ a month but I have insurance.. I would like to find a private dr that takes bcbs and stop the clinic.. My husband is tired of paying for it and doesn't realize that stopping cold turkey isn't an option... I'd like to eventually maybe get on suboxone or something else but I'm on too high of a dose right now.. So If anyone can help me find a dr that will help me I'd be so greatful.. I'm scared to try pain mgmt because I don't want anyone thinking I'm trying to get meds from both the clinic and a dr... Please help!!!!

Hello, Chas! How are you doing?
I'm sorry, but under the current laws, this can't be done. Regular doctors aren't allowed to prescribe Methadone for addiction/maintenance treatment, that can only be done in a clinical setting by those that have been specially trained in its use for such.
Learn more Methadone details here.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
There have been many people asking about this, because they get tired of the regular clinic visits and the expense, but there is nothing that can be done about it.
Even if you were only going to the clinic out of desperation due to pain, it is still listed as an addiction treatment clinic in your medical records, so no regular doctor will be able to prescribe it for you.
Why do you feel you're on too high of a dose to use Suboxone?
I've been in pain management for over 10 years here in S. Florida, on the Treasure Coast. I take methadone 10mg x2 in the morning, x1 in the afternoon, and x2 at night. I've been in pain management for the past 12 years with the same doctor. My doctor has been cutting his hours in half the past few months, so I have had to change to a different, much larger pain management firm 30 miles south of me (1 mile from my work). The new doctor put me on the exact same regimen with the exact same instructions.
I thought the battle was over, but no one is able to fill the prescription. The pharmacies in West Palm tell me my home is too far away, and the pharmacies where I live say the doctor's office is too far away. They tell me, even though they are sure it's a valid script, they cannot fill it, despite me waiting until 29 days, always using insurance, and having a well established history with the medication. I cannot believe this, and will run out of my medication unless it can be resolved very soon. It's embarrassing to be treated like some kind of junkie, despite being a very responsible patient for so many years.
Does anyone have any advice/experience to share? I'm completely at a loss.
