I see a pain doctor once a month. He occasionally does a drug screen to see if you're taking you're meds, and any meds you shouldn't be taking. I tested positive for Nucynta, I have no idea why, I have never even heard of it. the only pain drugs I take are Tramadol, and Flexerill. I do take several other drugs for various reasons. I am very curious to know why I tested positive ## The same thing happens to me I take hydrcodine and tested positive for nucynta I never heard of either until today what causes this ## My PM doctor took me off my Oxycodone for breakthru pain relief with my Nucynta because he says its not needed, and then substituted it with Diclofenac...I have degenerative disc disease, bulging discs in my lower back, full body arthritis, and Fibromyalgia, I am st...

I ran short on meds this month and pain doc gave me a urine drug test which included nucynta. Will she drop me. I cannot function at all w/out meds. ## Now did this turn out for you? Um facing the exact same issue. Ran out Saturday am and took the surprise urine test this morning which is a Tuesday. ## I took Nucynta a week ago, then found out I had a surprise drug test this morning. I took one just thirty minutes before my test. Will is show up because I really need for it to show up or I will lose my doctor and I love my doctor. She is wonderful. ## So will it show up or not? I need to know if I take Nucynta thirty minutes before a drug test, will it show up?

I am on Nucynta and need to know what comes up in the drug test. Does it come up as just opioid or does it come up as Morphine? ## No. Morphine comes up as hydromorphone where Nucynta comes up as an opiate. ## Nucynta comes up as tapentol and is not on a standard UDS panel can only be detected by LC/MS

will one 50 Mg nucynta..taken almost 24 hrs prior to testing show up in a standard 10 panel pre employment urine drug test? ## I should add that a friend gave me the pill because I hurt my back. I don't have a scrip for it.. but do have one for merperidine. would they show up as the same thing on the test? ## It depends on the type of test they use. The Tapentadol in Nucynta has been added to the newer drug screens, but there are still some tests that will only show the presence of opiates and not the specific one that was taken. Learn more drug testing details here. Do you know any specifics on the type of test they use? ## I'm on bikes through pm.I have taken 3 nucynta in last 2 weeks, I took last one today. I have a drug test in 3 week's with pm dr.will it be out of my sy...

My doctor put me on nucynta er 150 mg x2 daily for chronic pain and I'm not getting any pain relief. Does it take time to work? I've been on it for 3 weeks. ## Hello, Kurtfen! How are you? No, it is an opiate and should have some effect within about 15 to 20 minutes of taking it. However, it could be that it's just not the right medication to help you. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you informed your doctor of the issue? You may need to try a different medication.

I've been on 75mcg fentanyl patches for about a year. I started having some issues with my blood sugar and sweating that I thought were from the patch. Then this month I found out my wife had been using them so I spoke to my doctor about changing. On 3/4 he switched me to 50mg nucynta er twice per day. Told me to discontinue the patches immediately. I did and had the left overs destroyed or whatever they do with them. I was fine for about a day and a half. Then started feeling very anxious and nervous. I would note the first night I did have hives on my arm but they went away quickly and I associated them with someone's body spray. Now it's been 5 days and I haven slept in 3. I have hydrocodone but I'm only supposed to take no more than 4 per day but my doctor hasaid tol...

I got a surprise urine test today. I take fentanyl patches and nucynta. My last Nucynta was Saturday am and I took the test this morning (Tuesday). I also took a tramadol last night. 1. How long does Nycynta stay in a lab urine test? 2. Does tramadol show up separately or will they both (Nucynta and tramadol) show up the same? 3 I tested negative for both the Fentanyl and the Nucynta in the office so they sent it to the lab. I was wearing a fentanyl patch at the time. Please help. It was dumb but I had oral surgery and they won't let 2 different doctors prescribe 2 drugs so I only had the Nucynta and ran out 5 days early. Anything fishy and I'll get dropped. ## I am on Fentanyl. It's not going to come up in a normal urine test. It's a separate test. Norfentanyl. Only way...

What's Nucynta ER comparable to as far as a pain reliever goes? ## According to the study linked below from NIH.gov, "Tapentadol IR (the active ingredient in Nucynta) has comparable analgesic efficacy and overall safety to that of Oxycodone IR for the relief of moderate to severe, acute lower back pain as well as leg pain" Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23703422 Another clinical study also compared 50mg and 75 mg dosages of Tapentadol IR to Oxycodone HCl IR 10 mg and reported similar efficacy, at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19302899 I understand that this is referring to immediate release and not extended release, but perhaps this information will at least give you an idea of its potency/capabilities and what level of relief you might come to expect. Hope this helps! ## I underst...

I was reading about nucynta and it says same class as tramadol and that does nothing for me do I need positive feedback that this will work and will I have withdraw from morphine? ## Hello, Renae! How are you? What you have to understand is that all the medications you've mentioned are in the same category, Tramadol is just a very mild opioid in comparison to the others. Nucynta contains the a...

I have a prescription for Nucynta 100mg 4/day. I took some Sunday morning and had a surprise urine test on Tuesday morning. The "dip" came back negative - even for the fentanyl patch I have never taken incorrectly in 9 years. I am stockpiling for an oral surgery I'm having in January. My pain doc prescribes NOTHING ELSE. Ever. I've had root canals, implants, sprained ankles - even the ER doc called to tell him he thought I should have more. Nope. So, I'm saving up an extra 20 or so annnnddd of course I got the one urine test I have ever had in 4 years. So, like everyone else, I am waiting a full week to see if I have a pos/neg result. Is it enough in my system? I'm somewhat overweight, had a gastric bypass 4 years ago and I've done nothing in those 3 days bec...

I've been taking 50mg for about a week but my pain has gotten worse. I went to my dr. today and he told me to start taking 150mg. I take trazadone, gabapentin methocarbomol. I'm afraid to take these but can't sleep without them. Do you think I'd be safe to take them? My last dose of nucynta was at 6pm. I'm not experiencing any effects ## Hello, Sandi! How are you? You should take what your doctor has prescribed for you, unless he has instructed you to stop taking them. It may cause you to experience more drowsiness and dizziness than usual, combined with the higher dose of the Nucynta, so you should be aware of that. As to any warning signs, if it is possible too much, the dizziness and drowsiness with become severe and you may also start experiencing shallow breathin...

I have PCOS and have cyst heavy ovaries. My period is terrible, with pain in waves. I have taken naproxen, to no effect this time. Is it safe to take a 75 mg Nicobar before bed? They are not the extended release tablets. ## Hello, Grace! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in so much pain. I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between these two medications, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you! It isn't something I would ever want to take lightly but I feel a bit more reassur...

I have found a blue rectangle shape tablet in my room mate's doorway with the inscription OMJ 100 on it. Any ideas as to what this is? ## What you have described is a Nucynta extended release 100 mg. The active ingredient is Tapentadol. It is a centrally acting analgesic which works on both an opioid receptor and as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The manufacturer is Janssen Pharmaceuticals. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Nucynta Details. Hope this helps! I took my meds 10 hours ago and I was wondering if I could have 2 glasses of wine? ## Hello, Chela! How are you? No, you should stay away from alcohol while taking prescription medications. This is especially true with the Naproxen, since it may have a detrimental effect on your liver, which can be compounded and made more risky by adding the alcohol, even drinking very little has been known to cause liver failure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Naproxen as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding. Nucynta is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Alcohol with it can worsen the side effects. Is there...

I took nucynta 50 mg and I wont take it again it makes me feel like crap. Ill just go back to the alcohol.i took it at 2pm its 6 pm how long does this last ugg! ## Hello, Susie! How are you? Can you please be more specific about the symptoms you experienced? The FDA classifies Nucynta as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Thus, some side effects are to be expected. And using alcohol can be very dangerous, because you may damage your liver and kidneys, if either fails, it could be fatal.

My Dr. gave me Nucynta 50 mg yesterday. If I run out of my Hyromorphone Hcl 18mg, can I take the new drug Nucynta 50mg for withdrawals from Hyromorphone Hcl? If anyone has had hands on experience with this, or know's of someone that has? Any help would be well appreciated! I ended up taking the NUCYNTA this morning due to acute pain brought on by a car accident 4 weeks ago. ## I have been taking this medication for a month now. Dose is 4x a day and I am very pleased , the pain relief as been relieved immensely , Vicodin was not doing much other than making me a couch potato . Down side is you can't miss a dosage or pain returns quickly, lower back and legs in my case. Overall for me it is a 10 enabling me a much more active lifestyle.

severe pain. Does nucynta alleviate pain? I am at my wits end and cannot take codeine due to severe itching. Will have to undergo 3-5 months of physical therapy and need a strong pain reliever to work. I surely hope this works. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. ## Hello, Callie! How are you? Yes, Nucynta contains the active ingredient Tapentadol. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, there are also other options, such as Oxycodone, Morphine, Hydromorphone and Oxymorphone. These are some other options you can discuss with your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take a combination of medications for the pain in my legs. I take for 100 mg Nucynta a day plus a combination of others. How does this work for you guys anybody dry it? ## Hi Tracie, I haven't tried Nucynta (Tapentadol) specifically, but looking at its indications, this medication appears to be marketed for use in treating moderate to severe (acute) pain. Running a search for Nucynta here on MedsChat (in the search bar above) you can find a number of patient reviews pertaining to its efficacy. Based on what I've seen posted, it looks like it's effective for many individuals, but others have also raised concerns about its long term use and safety. At the end of the day though, I think the reality is that each individual reacts/responds differently and the only honest way to...

I just moved to Wheeling, WV and was wondering if someone knew a dr that's can prescribe opioids for pain management? I am currently taking nucynta and tramadol and would like to stick with what works. ## Hello, Jescakin! How are you? All doctors have to be cautious about prescribing such medications, now, if not, they risk losing their license to practice medicine, as well as fines and jail time. They are restricted in what they can prescribe, how much they can prescribe and any they can prescribe it. Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you to someone? If so, that would most likely be the easiest way to find the help you need. Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area? ## Hi well I got my dr in MI working on a referral for a pain clinic for me. I was denied as a patien...
