Norco Vs Lorcet
UpdatedI had been taking Lorcet 10/750 since '97. When the Norco came out, the doctor changed me to Percocet 10/325, but it really made me constipated, so I asked to be changed to Norco. It does not last long enough. I have severe migraines, RA, OA, Spinal Stenosis, Sciatica (both sides), herniated disc at L-7. The PA I see at my PPO, has told me Lorcet was discontinued totally, but now I find that Lorcet 10/325 is still available. I never had issues with the constipation while taking Lorcet, but do have it with the Norco. I am a caregiver to my 85 yr old Mom. I really would like to switch back to Lorcet. My kidney function is good, although the Norco does affect urination, sometimes hardly voiding any urine. What can I do in this case? Thanks for your time and have a Blessed Day...

Both Norco and Lorcet contain the same active ingredients, Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen.
However, the lowered amount of Acetaminophen might be why you're not experiencing as much pain relief. The FDA requires all combination prescription medications like these to now only contain a maximum of 325mgs of it per dose. They also warn that they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
Have you been taking the name brand, or a generic? What have you tried to alleviate the constipation?
They have been discontinued .. The supply they are using is what they had made. After its gone there will be no more
There is a difference in the two meds: one contains oxycodone (percocet) and the other hydrocodone (lorcet). That may be the constipation issue. But if taking fiber and lots of water don't help then there is a medication strictly for your problem (forgot the name). Ask your Dr. They will know.
Lorcet is hydrocodone. Find out from an old lorcet bottle. The manufacturer should have a 3-4 letter code after the strength marking on the bottle... Perhaps the added fill material may be a catalyst in the constipation, altho that is a side effect... try finding norco made by same company that made the lorcet you were taking and maybe it wont be so bad. You can call drug stores and ask if their norco is made by such n such company... If you do not say a co. name they may or may not tell you what they have due to robbery concerns..... Hope it works out for you.... prayer cant hurt.
Yes phil, I believe the drug you are taking about is called Movantik, which is indicated for opioid induced constipation.
There is no such thing as "L-7." The lumbar spine only contains 5 vertebrae. Oxycodone (Percocet) is considered better/stronger than hydrocodone (Lortab, etc). The simple solution to constipation caused by opioids is to take 1 or 2 stool softeners daily while using these pain pills. Walmart sells one with a very mild laxative and they are inexpensive. God [will] bless you for taking care of your mother.
If you wish to avoid the manufactured stool softner you can also use a spoonful of olive oil and avoid the unneeded filler crap (pun intended) i have done this several times and it is actually cheaper and its good for cooking as well
