We are least able to fight for our needs. I can barely make it to my car from the front door. So I can't march or protest but I deserve better than this. Is there an advocacy group for us or do we need to organize one. "People in Pain" maybe. We need to fight for our rights to adequate medication. Someone is responsible for this, we need to know who and hold them accountable.

Before this change I would see my Dr. once every 3 months. I'd pick up my script that day and it always had 2 refills on it. I will mention what you said:"They, under the law, can write 3 prescriptions, 1 per month, to be handed in to the pharmacy at the same time." I had my last Dr. visit just a few weeks ago if that. This new way of doing things had just started so hopefully he will be on to this. He had an intern come in on my last visit as he wanted him to see what polio can do to limbs. I don't have that much damage as I was very fortunate but this post- polio brings on exhaustion and pain like gangbusters and I don't like going out all that much. I was asking this young intern what people are doing to abuse norcos and he said some insufflate it up their noses. It was a funny conversation but those who really need it will have to suffer a bit and I don't feel this is right. I will mention what you have said assuming your Mom lives in Michigan. Thanks for the heads up.

Beagle, was your doctor giving you a number of refills before the scheduling change? They, under the law, can write 3 prescriptions, 1 per month, to be handed in to the pharmacy at the same time. That will give you 1 month with 2 refills basically yet they will all be written on hard copies. My mother is going through this now. She is 70 years old, 109% disabled and has not had to see the dr every month in years. I did ask my dr about this before the scheduling change and he told me this can happen. Also, and I didn't know this, all schedule 2 drugs can be written the same way. 3 prescriptions from one visit as they are all hard copies. Hope this helps you. Talk to your doc because this is legal!

I agree, Condor, and unfortunately so many docs are unwilling to do that because that puts X amount of narcotics out in circulation! No kidding.....that is what I was told. I'm like, "ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???" WTH are people suppose to do without their meds, meds that are NOT suppose to be stopped abruptly? None of this makes sense! I think this is the governments way of "fighting/ending the war on drugs!" It's not going to work as it is the addicts and dealers who always find a way around the so-called system, AT OUR EXPENSE! I wonder, how many suicides have there been due to uncontrolled pain? Or, how many turned to H? Yeah, THAT sure helps end the drug war now doesn't it? (insert sarcasm)

Verwon, I found out, don't know if completely true or not, but, that pharmaceuticals do not have a limit on the amount of narcotics they can produce in one year. Just like pharmacies do not have a limit on what or how much they can order. I know these are controlled substances and have high abuse potential, but so do benzo's and there is no limit on those. Can I ask where you got your info? You are always great at linking your info to specific sites. I do apologize in advance if I am wrong.....I don't believe I am, though. Every day there are more narcotic scripts written due to chronic non cancer and cancer pain. Could you imagine if there was really a limit? A lot of people would be left without pain control. Something just sounds fishy to me, don't you think!

I've been taking these for many years also. The only complaint or side effect I get is constipation. I have to take Dulcelax 3 or 4 times a week but that's a small price to pay for pain relief. The DEA must really think making it difficult for those of us over 60 to get some pain relief is going to help in their war on drugs. What a load of BS. Every 3 months I get blood work done and I'm sure opiates come up so if there was a problem I think they would have said something to me by now, they haven't yet. I have to make a trip to the Doctors now once a month and this is going to be a hassle for sure. I don't get around so easy anymore and I don't appreciate having to to do it. I've got no choice.

The manufacturers are behind on the labeling, and they're not behind. They shipped more pain meds this week but it's the distributor and walmart pharmacy who's holding it up. Good Luck to everyone who is truly in pain. God Bless! Here's the phone number to verify if it's true what I just posted: It's Mallinckrodt (Mallk) Manufacturers and the phone number is (314) 654-2000.

Hello, Fina and Nyla! How are you both?

Well, unfortunately, we are into the time of year when there is almost always a shortage of controlled substances. There are mandatory manufacturing limits to help keep better track of the supply and once a company reaches that limit, they can not manufacture anymore, until the new year.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Thus, that might be causing the problem. There was already a shortage this year, due to the dosage changes that caused some companies to stop manufacturing Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen, as well as the change that placed it on the schedule 2 drugs list earlier this month.

It might be better to speak to your respective doctors and ask about trying a different medication, for now.

Does anyone else have any advice or ideas?
