Norco Shortage In Michigan (Page 8)

Updated

Is anyone else having problems finding a pharmacy to fill their scripts of Norco? I have been taking them for a few years now for my chronic pain. I always go to the same pharmacy chain, and its always the same doctor who writes my scripts, but since the new law change no one seems to have them in stock. Some pharmacists told me it was a manufacturer back order. We are told not to go without our meds, but yet how is that possible if we can't get them? Anyone knows of a pharmacy that has Norco 10/325 in the metro Detroit area?

Hi All, Got my script 11/17 and couldn't fill it anywhere in the Detroit area. FINALLY got it filled at my regular pharmacy today 11/19, BUT they said it just came in before I called and that they are only getting a bottle at a time a lot of times now. This is a MAJOR pharmacy too...I am already going through this "shortage" thing with Schedule II drugs with another script, so I knew what to expect...The thing I want to mention is that the best thing you can do is use a major pharmacy (who are generally allocated more due to selling more) and make sure you transfer ALL your scripts there (you will get better results - trust me). Then when you call during a shortage make sure you give your name and say you are a regular customer. That's how many stores are dispensing; by only filling Norco for regular customers. It's only going to get worse, since there are tons of people on the drug who will be trying to fill. And I don't care what the FDA says...This drug went Schedule II in October...I have a very hard time believing every single one of the manufacturers are NOW having problems getting it out all at the same time. No. It's the FDA. And as I mentioned, I go through this with another drug on and off all the time, and it's exactly what is happening now with the Norco. I'm convinced it's the FDA and something has got to change. This is an archaic way of dealing with the problem as far as I'm concerned. Anytime a patient has to go without important meds just because the FDA won't let them be manufactured in the quantity needed is NOT what you would expect in the USA.

Have you gotten sick to your stomach from these? They do take away pain for me but I toss my cookies with that stuff. Don't know why.

Norco is a very weak drug based on the fact no one mentioned withdrawal. Try a few Advil. Otherwise you can do what the millions of people who were on OxyContin and Opana did while the DEA cleaned up the perscription drug problem with all the new laws and chasing doctors who write too much and everything else and move to H! Since this no cense started about 3 years ago H use is up over 2000% so they are causing people with manageable overseen pain management all just turn into junkies!! The DEA WILL LOOK LIKE HEROS BUT HAVE CREATED JR HIGH DEALERS DUE TO EASE OF GETTING PRODUCT AND NOW THE DEMAND ISNT ONLY THE PEOPLE I MENTIONED BUT A WHOLE NEW BUNCH OF USERS THAT OUTNUMBER THE PILL PEOPLE 20 to 1. There is an epidemic coming cause solely by the government that will make what was happening with the pills look like child's play, mark my words, follow the newspapers and drug OD's and eventually all the busts which will amount to about 5% of the problem.

was able to get my prescription filled but they are now white instead of yellow, whats up with that. 10/325, was the yellow dye the real problem, but cant be announced due to massive liability to the pharmaceutical companies ???

Rob, the pharmacists are just lying that they don't have the medication - they don't want to fill it anymore because they say the DEA is coming down on them bulls***! Yes, pharmacists are very judgemental and I agree they do give us a certain look when we ask to have our pain meds re-filled and I think they enjoy it when they don't fill it for us. I personally hate all pharmacists for the fact they hate people who take pain pills and they judge everyone that does. What gives any of them the right to judge our pain? I do hope you were able to finally find a pharmacy that will fill your meds. When I have had trouble getting my meds I just go to the street - that is what the DEA has caused us who are in chronic pain to have to now do.

I have been on these since my car accident, all other options even multi-level disc replacement in my neck didn't take my pain away, I have to go to pain management 3x a month and p.t. 2x a week STILL and its been over a year. With that been said my surgeon prescribed tramadol which is an addicting opiate that does no more relief than a tylenol. My pain management Dr. just put my back on norco 10/325 the pharmacies all told me the same, if this is known why are the DOCTORS not prescribing a REPLACEMENT while patients are unable to fill these scripts? They must know of this. (Not saying its their fault and no they don't need to fix it but why not explain the situation and prescribe a replacement while the change takes place?)

Why would they "NOT "classify it as a schedule 2 drug is the question? They are all opiates and all derived from the poppy plant and have the same active ingredient. To someone who abuses opiates they're all the same and you will get the same buzz. If you don't have an OxyCotton you will take five or six Percocets if you don't have five or six Percocets you will take 10 or 12 norco. So of course Norco should be classified in the same category. It's an opiate just like the others just a smaller dosage.

Scoote1019 That may be true but because we have those who abuse something we all have to pay a price and that's not right.

I would be willing to share in any complaint, or class-action suit. If anyone knows a pharmacy in the Daytona Beach, FL, Volusia County, area that does not claim to be out of stock, please respond. Walgreens and CVS are not a possibility.

There is no excuse (lie) I haven't heard. My last journey from pharmacy to pharmacy to get my wife's meds I was told, "No, we can't call any of our other stores to find these for you, we're not allowed to". I don't think there is a shortage. Are we supposed to believe that they care so little about profits that they will stop shipping while they contemplate changing package labeling? I think the manufacturers and the FDA have conspired to simply make it more difficult to get the drugs and the pharmacists have been told to tell you whatever it takes to get you to go away and if you deal with a mail order place like Express Scripts it's even worse. "We haven't received your script" "We lost the script" "I can't say why it wasn't filled" "You sent it in too soon" "It has to be approved first" "It is in for review" "We need the doctor to call us" "A phone call isn't good enough" The best one is, "They will be shipped tomorrow". Yeah, good luck with that one.

BS-If there is a shortage it is because they want there to be a shortage.

To all Florida chronic pain patients: Please follow this link, and sign the petition to all our legislators, regarding the narcotic prescription shortage. While we're all severely suffering, and are unable to do anything else, at least we can take some action by signing. Here's the link: petitions.moveon.org/sign/florida-prescription?source=s.fwd&r_by=5784872

Looks like everyone is forgetting Norco became a Schedule II drug in October. THAT is the problem...The government will only let a certain amount of the drug be manufactured at a time. The "on and off" availability will continue now as long as you take Norco. As I said in another post, there must be a better way to control Schedule II drugs and the government needs to find out what that is and change this archaic way of dealing with the problem of abuse.

Condor, in reply # 34 the source you quoted stated that if a there were refills on a rx written before Oct 6, that refills wouldn't be allowed. Federal Law Does Not state that. The Federal Law states that if a rx was written before Oct 6 with refills that the refills "may" be gotten until April 8 2015. But, it is up to each individual pharmacy or pharmacy chain if they want to refill. Some are and some aren't Put, dea AND hydrocodone AND refills AND april 8 2015 in your search bar.

This is Bulls***!! And don't tell me to switch to something else.... cause nothing else works. For the DEA to do this and then put it on the backs of distributors and packaging is BULLS***! What gets me is they always want to put that line in there....this medication has side effects .......so does wine, liquor and cigs and wine and beer !! Give me a firkin break !

You are right there is NO shortage it is Bulls***. If you use Walgreens keep going to different ones - my pharmacist at Walgreens told me he doesn't know about any shortages for Norco even with the change that he has over 2 full bottles sitting on the shelf. I am in Florida and I know this thread is about the shortage in Michigan but if there is no shortage here why would there be in Michigan? But I wanted to add if you can't find Norco try to have your pm doctor write your rx for Vicodin. It is the same drug hydrocodone and I know people might say they can't afford it BUT the Vicodin by the manufacturer Abvee has a GENERIC co-pay so really it is going to cost you the same as the generic Norco. I have not had one issue getting my monthly Vicodin re-filled and they always have it in stock at Walgreens. I hope this helps in maybe a solution for getting some pain relief right now.

That doesnt change the fact Norcos should be a class 2 drug. Your issue should be with the doctors that over prescribe them to people who should not have them.
