No More Hydroxyzine

My new doctor (I moved) is taking me off hydroxyzine pam 50 . She said it is not good for people over 65, I am 67. I itch and that was why my doctor where I lived put me on it 3 years ago. I need this medication or the itching come right back. The root of the itching is hep C and diabetis. Is there an equivalent that will work as well?

Hi, Jan! How are you? Sorry about the problem that you're having.

It isn't that Hydroxyzine can't be used in people over 65, but it does need to be carefully monitored and the dosage should be kept low, since it can be very sedating.

You've been on it for awhile, so any side effects wouldn't be new, but I can't control what your doctor does.

However, I'd suggest discussing it with her and asking for an alternative.
