My mother is taking Nitrofurantoin-mcr 100 for a UTI infection. In the past she has been on other antibiotics for the same and the infection has come back within days of use. Now she has been using the nitro- for 3 days, she has noticed that now it seems she has a bit of thickened blood in her urine. She is also taking a blood thinner(cumadin) for a heart problem. Is this a possible side effect of the med. ## Hello, Ken! How is your mother doing? On this, I'd suggest she see her doctor to have it checked out. It may just be from the UTI, but with her being on the Coumadin, any bleeding can be risky and isn't something to just wait around and see what happens. Do they know what's causing the repeated UTIs?

My husband has a prostate infection and this antibiotic has been prescribed. He was on a different antibiotic for 2 weeks that was 500 mg. the doctor says that it is almost cleared but has prescribed nitrofur macr 100 mg for 2 more weeks. Will this clear it up all together? ## Hi, Gayle! How is your husband feeling? Nitrofurantoin is an effective antibiotic and if another was needed, then it's normal for the doctor to want to switch, instead of using the same one again. Doing so helps prevent the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria. He may experience side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Nitrofurantoin details here. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## I have a prostate infection Bacteria DR prescribed Cipro 500 mg...

I was diagnosed with Trigonitis and my gyn has prescribed Nitrofurnantoin oral suspension ( cannot swallow pills) to be taken at bedtime for 5 weeks. I also have nodules in my lungs which from time to time my pulmonologist will order a chest x ray or cat scan. No significant changes but my pulmonologist will periodically order a chest x ray or cat scan. I do not have any breathing problems etc. Will this new medication be bad/cause complications for my lung issue? ## Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic more commonly known for its use in treating urinary tract infections. No one can honestly know for sure how this medication will end up effecting you overtime, until you have tests done periodically. From what I've researched on my own, there are some potential adverse effects that can im...

There is calcium carbonate in the Oncovite ingredients and I am wondering about the interaction with Nitrofurantoin mono mac 100 mg ## Yes, the calcium can cause you to absorb less of the Nitrofurantoin. However, it says that this can be avoided if you take them at least 2 hours apart. Since the calcium coats you stomach, it prevents full absorption of the medication if they are taken at the same time. You should double check this with your doctor or pharmacist, but that is what is currently listed. Is there anything else I can help with?

I started Nitrofurantoin 100mg 4 times a day, yesterday morning (10th April). I took them 4 hours apart yesterday but have stretched them out a little more today to 6 hourly. Anyway, I am aware of the side effects of this medication, but I just wanted to know timescales. If I were to experience any adverse side effects, when are they likely to hit me? Also when am I likely to start feeling better? I feel worse today than I did when I was diagnosed (9th April). Thanks ## I'm sorry, but there is really no way to say when they will hit, if they do. It can vary from person to person, so it's highly individualized. However, as a genera rule with antibiotics, you shouldn't feel any worse after taking it for a full 24 hours and you should start to feel better after a full 3 days. S...

i was given this drug for a uti for 1 week.how long can i safely continue this drug i f the symptoms are not completely gone? i immediately felt much better but still have some lingering discomfort after almost 1 week of treatment.i have a history of recurrent infections if antibiotics are not used for a long time. ## Hello, Barbara! How are you doing? Some people are prone to recurrent UTIs and do require this antibiotic on a long-term basis for prevention. That is something you may want to discuss with your doctor. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My dr prescribed nitrofurantoin mono mac 100 mgs 2x a day for 7 days, im only on within 24 hrs already, is this a correct medicine or what? I dont notice any changes yet, ## Hello, Donna! How are you? Has it gotten any better? It usually takes 3 days, before you'll notice a difference if the antibiotic is working. Did your doctor do any tests? Have you had any sinus issues?

I have an ear infection with a totally blocked ear. I also have some nitrofurantoin left over from a uti. Will this antibiotic help my ear infections ## Hello, Diana! How are you? You need to see your doctor to have the presence of an infection confirmed and, if you do have one, they'll need to prescribe you a full course of an appropriate antibiotic to treat it. And you should always finish the full course of any prescribed antibiotic, to avoid the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is there anything else I can help with?

have not taken any but have peripheral neuropathy also very bad and hate to get worse ## Hello, Evelyn! How are you? What was it prescribed to treat? It's an antibiotic, so it's only effective against bacterial infections and won't treat the conditions you've mentioned.

Hi I'm 34 weeks and 5 days pregnant, I took one dose of this medicine this far for a UTI and I've never heard of this medicine before. Is this safe to take for my baby? I am supposed to take this 2x a day for 5 days, I received the medicine today and took one pill thus far, I get nervous about what I'm putting into my body; this was prescribed to me by my OB/GYN but I didn't know that there were restrictions in regards to pregnant women taking this medicine. ## Hello, Miranda! How are you? There have no reports or evidence of risk to the baby, if used during pregnancy, but like any other medication, it should only be used if really necessary and shouldn't be used past 38 weeks. When you have an infection, you have to understand that the risks associated with it to yo...

I started taking a 10 day prescription for Nitrofurantoin at 6 months pregnant for a UTI almost 4 weeks ago. Eight or nine days into taking it, my heart rate went up to 173. For about 14 hours it fluctuated above 145. Three days after that went away, I got a pressure headache that felt like someone was squeezing my head and broke out in hives. A few days following that I ended up having severe joint and muscle pain, stiff ankles, my heels feel like they are on fire. And I CANNOT walk! The pain is excruciating. It hurts to sit, stand, and especially walk. The headache went away, the rapid pulse, and the rash is getting better, but the tremendous joint pain remains. It hurts so bad at times I just cry! I pray that the baby is ok. I usually use cranberry extract and natural cures, but this...

At this point, there may be something more than just a regular UTI going on. How was it diagnosed? ## based on a U.A showing low blood. my doc told me it could be in the kidneys during the 1st treatment. I could stay on cipro for 10 days instead of 7. now he said i c...

How are you doing? I'm very sorry that you were feeling so miserable. What did your doctor say about it? Regardless of how many times you've taken a medication, your body does change with time, so it's always possible to suddenly have new side effects from it, or a bad reaction. ## I DID GO SEE HER, SHE SAID AB THE SAME AS YOU, JUST CONTINUE TAKING MY MEDS AND IN DUE TIME THE SIDE EFFECTS SHOULD GO AWAY, THANKS FOR THE ...

Before I take these pills I would like to know the side effects. My Doctor prescribed them to me but I forgot to ask about the side effects. Are they safe, will the make me feel wired, or am I over exaggerating. I do not like taking pills what so ever and I always feel like I get an anxiety attack or something along that line. I just feel ugh maybe because I scare myself, I don't know. Please get back to me asap as I'm suppose to start taking them tomorrow. Thanks. ## Help, Sasha! How are you? This is an antibiotic and its normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Nitrofurantoin details here. This medication was given to me because I continued getting urine infections after intercourse and nothing else was working for me. I was given this medication to take one pill after intercourse, just one time. I have to say that for the past two years I have never gotten another UTI. This medication is great. I love it. Am I the only one that this has worked for? I am diabetic and also take insulin. I also have not gotten anymore yeast infections. ## Hello, Rosa! How are you? I'm so glad that you found something that works for you. And no, you are not the only one that it has worked for, there have actually been quite a few people that have posted about having good experiences with it, but usually in a preventative manner, such as how you are taking it. Most of the complaints I...

I came down with a cold 4 days ago taking cold meds for it .I also came down with a urinary tract infection 2 weeks ago. Saw my urologist Fri. Im taking Nitrofurantoin until the results come back Monday.I also have a hernia up near my ribcage most likely from lifting to heavy of objects when I was working 8 years ago. can I still have a colonoscopy done Monday ?Im afraid that all these issues are getting in the way. ## Hello, Ressolute! How are you? Under these circumstances, I think it would be best to double check with your doctor. I'm not sure if anything you've been taking would affect the test results, or if taking products to empty your bowel could affect the antibiotic. Have you called to check, yet?

after taking this medication for 4 days my wife feels weak and shakey she has the same side effects after wearing a nitro patch any connections in the name Nitro ## They may be distantly related, most medications are if they have similar parts to their names. Learn more Nitrofurantoin details here. However, this is an antibiotic and it can also cause those as side effects, in some people, along with diarrhea, nausea and non-allergic skin rash. How long has she been taking it?
