Nitrofurantoin Dosing
UpdatedI read the prescription directions wrong. I'm taking nitrofurantoin for a UTI in pregnancy. The directions say every 12 hours for 7 days. I quickly looked at the bottle and thought it said every 7 hours. I have five pills left, so now about 2 and a half days left now that I know the actual timespan. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and now beginning to worry. Am I okay?

Hello, Momma! How are you? Congrats on the baby!
It would be best to return to your doctor to inform them of what happened. While overdose of an antibiotic isn't usually life-threatening, there may be issues they need to watch for with the baby and they may also need to prescribe more antibiotics, so you can do a full course of treatment.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Hi. I'm taking nitrofurantoin and it says to take one pill every 12 hours for 7 days. Is 7am to 7pm fine every day?
Re: Kiki (# 2)
Hi Kiki, If your dosing instructions are to take one pill every 12 hours, then yes, having one dose at 7am and the next dose at 7pm (12 hours later) is perfectly fine for the duration of your treatment.
This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to stick with those specific time-frames, but if this is what works best for you then I don't see why it would be any cause for concern.
I hope this helps!
